Oil Light On

Hey guys,
I recently got my car serviced (fully) at the dealer about a month ago... Yesterday my oil light came on. I turned my car off and back on and it went off. A few minutes later it came back on. Again, off/on and it went away and hasnt come back on since... My pressure gauge hasnt moved from where it usually sits, and everything seems normal in the car...
What is the reason for the light going on?
Should I top off the oil?

hey tam:

Step 1: check the oil level. Make sure you're on a flat surface and see where it sits.

#2: our Oil pressure gauge is actually a "dummy gauge". It never moves from it's pre-determined spot if the system has any pressure at all. ie; if your car is on, it'll go to the same spot every time. Some of us have installed functional oil pressure gauges due to this. (not necessary for most)

Is there any oil leak?

For goodness sake, CHECK YOUR OIL!!!!

F.Y.I., the oil pressure 'guage' is not really functional (it always reads the same, regardless of the actual oil pressure).

The low oil sensor has seen some failures, but should never be relied on to decide when to add oil to the car (as it is a pressure-based sensor, not a true level sensor).

Check your oil per the Mazda recommendations...

Car on level ground,
shut off,
wait 5 minutes for oil to get to the sump,
keep the dipstick between 3/4 full and full,
don't overfill

Check the oil every second fillup.

unless you're posting from your car, why not check it before you leave whereever you are now?
IF that light came on, that means your car is very low on oil and probably shouldn't be driven hard.

it hasnt come on today or all of last night... and the reason im not checking it now is cuz my car is parked in valet, so to get it they drive it out(always scares me that they might flood it)... so next time i go sumwhere and park, ill let it cool down and have a look...

When you go to check it bring Two quarts of your favorite oil. The Rotary engine is Oil injected so it better be burning oil or your in trouble. It will burn according to how hard it is driven. The dip stick has 1.8 quarts from "H" to "L" and the oil lite will come on near or below the "L" so you might need two quarts to fill it. We have seen more then one person on here that did not read there manual and burn up the engine. Please let us know what you find.

o wow, good to know... well the light DID come back on today wen i stepped hard on the car (raced a Toureg V8) and right after i let the car cool and I checked the level... it was halfway up that "indicator" so to speak... The bottom part of the oil stick thats like a meter, the oil was halfway through that... Im filling her up in a bit with some more oil cuz im assuming thats the problem.. am I correct?

yeah fill it up to the top of the "indicator" line do not overfill if you're about half way down that's about a qt. but try a half first then check then fill up the rest of the way......

Oh and you meant you raced the Toureg at the "track" not on the street because this forum does not condone street racing and you may b banned for it....however like u did just on the track is fine!!! lol
