Oil Change Question
I just had my 15,000 mile appointment and I went to a different Mazda dealer to have everything done (one closer to my house). When I got the car back and checked it over later I noticed that the oil had been overfilled (came to where the dipstick changes back to a cylinder from the flat part). This is about an inch above the full line. Also, I went back and checked my past bills for oil changes and it looks like they charge "5 qt bulk oil", which I think is just the standard for the Mazda computers. I talked to the techs and they said they actually put in about 4qts. and the bill charge still says 5qts. They also put what looks like 1qt of additive in too. So this means they might have put upwards of 5qts in, which is 1.3 qts over the standard amount. I guess I am just paranoid about it being so over the full line and what the long term effects might be. Let me know what you guys think about this.

The consensus seems to be that some overfilling is not a problem, or at least not as MUCH of a problem as it is in a piston engine. The reason such a "consensus" exists is because some dealers are dramatically overfilling, which is hard to understand.
Getting all the way up to the stopper is rather extreme! Personally I'd drain some oil to get it back to the specified range, just on general principle. What I WOULD NOT do is take it back to that dealer. Being that far off the mark is nothing short of complete negligence, imo. If they are that poor at filling oil, imagine how they'd handle something complex? The other worry is the alleged 1 quart of additive. Oil additives are ill-advised. Stay away.

Well this is all done as a manufacturer's 15,000 mile service. I was unaware of the oil additive part, I did not know that that was part of the process. Also, I agree with you, I will not be attending this dealership for service anymore. I also did not mention that they also scratched and messed up my air filter box. It seems as if they were trying to open the latches from the side nearest the engine, instead of where they actually unlatch, closest to the nose of the car. I think it is fair to say that I was unhappy with the entire Job, so I'll be taking the car back to the usual dealership that I do business with.
