oil change every 7,500miles?
i was reading the manual and i noticed for normal conditions, the oil should be changed every 7,500 miles. i dont see how thats possible. wouldn't the oil turn into sludge within 7,500 miles?

i change the oil every 3k-3.5k miles.
i'd do it 5-6k if i were using synthetic.
i've heard of the later model m3s having an oil change every 15k miles, they run nothing but synthetics.
so, no. its possible for it to not turn into sludge. but if you are using dino... ah.. i dunno.

As I recall, the 7,500 mile interval is for what they define as "normal" conditions—but if you turn the page you'll see the chart for "extreme" conditions. Virtually all cars operate in "extreme" conditions, and the "extreme" interval is only 5,000 miles.
Regardless of whether or not the oil would actually "turn into sludge" at 7,500 miles, the Renesis may be more sensitive to oil condition than other cars; so changing the oil every 3 or 4 months (or every 3K miles) probably really is "cheap insurance" for an RX-8.

Max, that I could see would be every 5,000 miles with synthetic and change the oil filter too. With Dino oil, 3,500 miles.
I think the oil filter is something that is being underestimated. I'm thinking the Amsoil oil filter might be the best bet.
I know there are some long life oils like Red line, Amsoil, etc... but, I would not take the risk on a RX-8 with leaving them in past 5,000 miles.

I do 30-40 oil changes a day, the majority of new cars recommend changes every 5000-7500. Many people do 7500 and are just fine. Just remember that once you oil gets totally trashed once it will get dirtier faster every time after that do to sludge build up. I see oil that looks solid black after only 10 seconds of running in the engine. So it is just better to stay on top of it.

I've seen some places can do Oil change for 17.99, 5 quarts, they give you those Shell oil That I think it cost like 1.25 or 1.50 @ local shops. Then a 1 dollar oil filter.
Castrol GTX selling at 8.99 for 1 Gallon I think. 1 Gallon should be enough more than enough for 1 oil change. Plus a decent oil filter hmm 5-6 bux ?
Or do the Autozone 5 Quarts of Castrol GTX + Fram Filter for 13.99
Stop being lazy ! Do your own oil change and save !
