Use regular dino oil and an OEM filter. That will run you maybe $20.

The benefit, if any, of synthetic oil and a nicer filter is way less than the harm of stretching oil changes too far.

+1 5-30 and regular oil and OEM or purolator filters are fine. Honestly what I've been reading leads me to believe it makes less difference on our motors to use expensive stuff and more difference to change frequently. So my advice is cut back on the fancy oil and just change at 3K.

ditch the royal purple

go with castrol, quaker state, formula shell,or pennzoil dino, whichever is on sale, ALL will last fine at 3k oil change intervals

I've been using Castrol for over 40 years. Never had an oil related problem.

Just any suggestion on a filter?
OEM from a dealer.

There was a thread a couple of years ago from someone who cut open a bunch of filters. OEM beat the socks off most mass market aftermarket filters - including the ones we all consider to be good. You need to go to a specialty maker like K&N to get something as good or better.
