Oil Change?

Hey, i dont mean to sound like a n00b but i just got my rx8 and wanted to know how often to change the oil, since it goes through it faster than other cars. And is it better to use synthetic or regular? Thanks!

Answers are in the owners manual if you have it. Mazda doesnt recommend synthetic although some people will tell you differently. Oil changes I think the manual says 5000-7500. Also be careful using Diesel in your car, it may or may not wreck it.

I don't mean to sound like a jerk but have you looked at any of the stickies here or tried searching first?

change it every 3000 miles.
check the level more often.
Asking if you should use synthetic or natural oil will cause half of the site to come after you with pitchforks and torches. Which half comes after you with pitchforks and torches depends entirely on if you decide to go dino or synth.

as others have mentioned:
- All these answers can be found in the owners manual. If you don't have one, don't worry... go to www.mazdausa.com and register under the 'owners' section. You can download a pdf version of the manual and even track all your car's mantenance on the site.

I would advise that you not follow their oil change intervals; far too many miles is suggested between oil changes. Stick to every 3,000 miles, make sure you read up on some of the Tehcnical Oil threads, and as for synthetic; that's completely up to you.

Some people hate it, mazda does not recommend it, and others use it with ZERO problems. I personally don't use it since on any given day I can drive 100-150 miles and it's just not very cost effective to be putting synthetic in it every month or so.

One last thing: mazda recommends 5w-20 but depending on where you live, I'd suggest otherwise. 5w-30 is what I use since it's quite warm

Synthetic users always go with pitchforks, because everyone knows synthetic oil does not BURN PROPERLY!

And synthetic users have those pitchforks since they need them to scrape the carbon deposits out of their ports.
