im a new rx8 owner and i just found out from my friend that it eats up oil like a b!tch, so im wondering what is the recommended mileage before needing an oil change?

 

how in the world did you buy the rx8 without knowing that? i dont even know own one and know that it takes a lot of oil.

change it every 3k miles. you should be down a quart of oil at that point.

or install the sohn adapter, and your car will not eat engine oil.

How big a bitch? Purse dog? Mastiff? Cocker spaniel? In any event, if your friend is feeding his dog oil, be really careful when you walk behind it.

Change your 8's oil every 3000 to 4000 miles, like you would any other car. Check it every few gas fill-ups. Expect to add a quart (maybe two) between changes.

Most of us start off fixated on oil consumption, carry a spare quart in the car, top off if it's a few ounces low, etc. Then we realize that checking every other fill-up is (for typical driving) twice a month, which is as often as you should check any car. And it's almost two quarts from the "low" to "full" marks on the dispstick.

There was also a time, not all that long ago, when the amount of oil the 8 uses was considered to be very low oil consumption.
