A lot of other Forum members have said Castrol is the best brand. I used to be a Valvoline person but, have switched to Castrol. The boat is still out on Synthetics, some say no, some say yes. But that would be with a complete change.

Have to agree with the Castrol. Talked to a Mazda mechanic here in Baltimore and he stated that they use Castrol 5-20 in the service shop. He did say you can buy a Mazda-branded 5-20 from the parts catalog, but it costs about a buck more than the Castrol per quart.

Enjoy your drive...

I'll be running Mobil1 5w30. Got some on hand so that's what I'm using to top off with as well. I can't see any reason to have a separate "top-off oil". Is that what you're asking?

Haven't reached the first change yet. Added a grand total of 1/4 quart at 400 miles. I'm at 800 now so it probably needs another 8 ounces :p

I would stay away from the Synthetics. There is to much wishy washy about it and rotary's. But thats just me. I use to use M1 in all of my Piston vehicles but they didn't injevt oil into the combustion chamber.

I now have a quart of Castrol 5W-30 in my trunk. Just changed my filter & oil over the weekend, and decided to convert from 5W-20, which I had been using (now at 12,500 miles)

Not sure synthetic is in my future, as I have been changing my filter & oil every 2,500 miles. The value vs. cost thing, more than an issue with synthetic vs. rotary.

Cool..........Thanks for all the replies.........

seems the jury is still out on the synth in a rotary........

I have used M1 5W 30 for 5K miles and the engine still runs as smooth as when I first got the car.
