Noise from throttle body with key "On"
Noise from throttle body with key "On"
High pitched noise coming from area around throttle body with the key in "ON" position. even with engine off.
I left the key on for a about an hour while waxing so i could listen to music with the doors open. This is so i don't hear the constant "ding "ding" of the door chime.
I noticed an aweful squeal from the throttle body. It is most noticeable if car is in a garage. When i open the hood and put my ear near it, it almost has a morse code layer of sound in there too. It seems louder now after I let the car sit with the key in the on position.
Could damage to any system be done if the key is on with the engine off? I realize that all the sytems are energized, and a greater draw from the battery is the result. I figured the car was smart enough to know it wasnt running therefore no harm would be done by doing so.........in the old days you could burn a set of ignition points........but now-a-days?.

I've heard it, too. Like you, when I wash, I play music. I'm really not worried about it, though. After all the engineering / testing that went into this car, I'm pretty sure they checked that, too. I've left mine on like that for an hour or more before, and I've seen no ill effect.
But, if anyone has any input, I'm willing to listen, as I could be wrong.

The sound you are hearing is the electric throttle actuator pushing the throttle butterfly closed, ready for you to start the engine (it is actually slightly open at rest, to allow some air into the engine in the event of a throttle control failure).
It won't do any harm in the short term, but after a few years it may shorten the life of the electric actuator.
Why do have the IG ON to listen to the radio? Doesn't it work in the ACC position?

If I am cleaning the interior or just want some music in the garage, I open the doors.

With the doors open and the key in the "ACC" position, the door chime never stops.

Things like fuel pumps, etc. etc. are all energized when the key is on and while it shouldn't be an issue, IMO is that it's probably better to not have that stuff running if it's not being used.
