Husband just bought me a 05 Rx-8, when the engine is in manual, shifting from 1-3 gear, starting at 5000 rpms, there is a bad rattling in the engine! Any ideas, cannot hear it unless driving with the windows down, only happens when shifting? Help!!

 

There is probably a loose bolt or piece of metal somewhere, but I doubt its IN the engine. Those little buggers can be a pain to track down. Good luck.

 

Thanks, it has only done it 2 or 3 times, I joked and said it was prob some trash or something, but now my husband feels bad. Doesn't affect the drive, just sounds bad.

 

How many miles? The engine and drive train have a 5 year 60K miles warranty. Call your dealer and make an apt.....

 

most 05 Rx-8 should still in the warranty period. Unless your Mileage went way off.

its 4 year or 50 K for bumper to bumper. whichever comes first
5 year or 60 K, for powertrain, whichever comes first.

it does not sound like your engine having problems, if you can only hear it with the window down at certain speed, you might picked up a nail somewhere in your tires, check the tire pressure, if its not, then bring it to dealership.
