New Starter Available Soon?

Last week I talked to a national Mazda rep and he offered a new starter. It is in the prototype stage right now but it should be in production soon. He said it cranks 30% faster. My guess is that it helps with both the cold weather starts and the flooding issue. My car has been running good for the last 1000 miles so I’m going to wait until they are out of the prototype phase.

I haven’t seen anything about it anywhere else so take it with a grain of salt. I just wanted to let everybody know that it might be an option in case they are having a problem that it could help.

True the starter is availible now for cars with multiple floods. ( I can't recall any 30% increase)

The main thing that needs to be addressed is the CCA on the pitiful stock battery. The TSB listed on the Rosenthal site more than doubles the CCA's and eliminates a large percentage of second floods.

The battery fixed my starting problems which is why I don't want to test the new starter. Mine wasn't flooding, just hardly turning over when it was 10 below out.

I'm pretty sure he said a 30% increase. He said current one cranks at 190 RPM so the new one must be near 250 RPM. I wrote it down but it is at home and I'm not.

I had the same problem in the bitter cold, so I got the new cold weather battery as well, and it is night and day from the original. Mazda should have never equipped northern climate cars with that thing.
