Just curious. Does anyone know why the size of the oil filter changed to smaller?

I noticed this too YODA, the orginal from the factory had made in japan and looked a TAD bit taller. The new one from my MAZDA dealer is shorter and says made in South Africa I think. The one off the car from the factory looks better for some reason. Maybe its the Japanese characters. Anybody else bought these new filters from Mazda USA?
