New to Rx8. Few questions.

New to the site, and thus far love it! Wasn't sure where to put these questions so I thought I would start here.

Seeing as there are many discussions on oil for any rotary engine experts out there, what IS the best? I use to have an '04 Rx8 manual but after a huge problem between the dealership and the state had to give it back (money given back ofc) I now have an '06 Rx8 AT, which I love WAY more than my old one. Guess it was a win-win for me, haha.

Anyways, when I took my '04 to the shop (not rotary) the mechanic informed me that there is kind of a "battle" between non synthetic and synthetic. He said NO on using it because it gunks up the engine, but every where else I read says yes on the synthetic. If so, what oil is best so I can start buying it myself doing it on my own.

Secondly, I just read on here last night about at least once a trip hitting about a 6000 RPM in 2nd. I have started driving manumatic after taking a small break from manual and enjoying the automatic for a while. However, manumatic is much for fun and better (so I hear) for the car.

My question about that is; Is it bad to let the car down shift on its own? I have found much difference in the shifting with my new car than my older manual and still getting use to it.

With my '04 I was clutching a shifting about 3000ish RPM for a good solid shift. With my '06 AT manumatic it seems to be about 2000 rpm for normal shifting. For the down shifts on my old is about 2000 RPM and I have to be at about 1000 on my AT manumatic or else it jerks like it's a bad shift. Very confused and feels a lot more steady to do it on its own since it's a wonderful piece of car and does that haha.

Thanks for the tips and info and look forward to much posting and researching on the site!!

Most of us stray away from synthetic unless we have a sohc... oh I mean SOHN adapter...

The theory is that if you inject synthetic oil into the engine it wont completely burn off, a rebuttal to this is that the oil isn't going to completely burn anyway. Most of us have been running dino oil and have been doing just fine.

As far as oil weight do whatever you want there's a million ideas and opinions on that. Similar to asking women what shampoo is the best.

As far as yrou autotragic questions, I can't help you there. But I know the paddle shifter is fun to mess around with.

Good luck and welcome, also thanks for not going full retard and providing some background on the car.

Not to debate, but a lot of people also go straight synth (no SOHN).

OP, the most important thing for you to do is research and come to a decision that makes you feel comfortable.
