New owner- break in question

I'm picking up my new RX 8 GT with the manual tranny on Tuesday. I've been poking around this forum for a few weeks. It's pretty nice.

On all of my piston toys, other cars, motorcycles, boats, snowmobiles, ATVs... I usually ride them like I stole them right away. I never load or lug the engine and make sure to do good deceleration break in as well as first or second gear no load acceleration break in. I make sure that the initial runs are longer so the motor gets up to a good operating temp. I'm usually up near redline within a few hundred miles. Sooner than that on my sleds and motorcycles. Never have had any issues with any of my engines and my machines are always at the upper range in hp on the dyno runs we do to benchmark stock before doing mods.

I've only owned one other rotary, a 1888 RX 7 GTU and I really don't remember how I broke it in.

Any advice would be great.

Thank you!

Never bag on a cold rotary.

There is a little oil spray for cooling the rotors, and it doesn't open until the oil is HOT. (Not the cooling system, the actual oil.)

....otherwise the "stolen" approach is fine.

The Mazda guidelines are reasonable and prudent. If you have any questions or uncertainly regarding the break-in period, we suggest you follow these official recommendations.

We receive many requests for our recommended break-in procedures. The following are Racing Beat's recommendations:

- For the first 1000 miles do not accelerate under full throttle.
- During the first 1000 miles do not exceed 4000 RPM.
- For miles 1000-2000, expand the RPM upwards - but do not accelerate at full throttle.
- Over 2000 miles, full throttle and high RPM is acceptable.

In summary, our guidelines offer a progessive method to increase the working loads placed on the engine.*
