Hi everyone.
Ijust purchased my first RX8 ! Took me awile but its a 17,000 2004 6 speed manual. I have had it for about a week now and having a blast with it!! But I have noticed at about 60mph to 70mph I get a wierd SLIGHT vibration.. Only at these speeds anything before 60 is great and after is great. Just this 10mph range is the only area it happens . Any ideas??

Sounds like an out of balance wheel. Vibrating in that speed range used to be pretty common before dynamic balancing was perfected. Take it to a good tire shop and get your wheels balanced.

Do you feel it through your seat or through the steering wheel? If the wheel, any shimmy? That could give you a clue as to which wheel.

Ken nothing in the steering wheel .But yes you do feel it in the seat!

I just got 4 new tires replaced and started noticing this problem right away, vibration would occur between 65-75mph. Went back to the same shop and told them, the guy said they checked and found the wheel 0.5grams off, so they balanced it again, now the vibration comes between 55-60mph. This is driving me nuts and I don't want to go back a third time to the same place to not have the problem resolved.


Any clue as to what could cause this?

 

I'm still fighting the same problem . It's makin me crazy! I know its in te rear. Mines a combination of vibration and harmonics if that make sence . I just sent out the rims to have them checked .I also had them balanced three times. Will see if this does the trick!! It's really taking the fun out of this car for me!!

 

I'd try to get them balanced on a road-force balancer...best way to balance IMO!.....of course unless it's an axle bearing as stated above and of course the road-force will not help that!

Are the people that are experiencing the vibration problem people with wheel lock lug nuts?

I read that sometimes it can be the locking nut that throws the balance out because that nut is heavier. This kinda makes sense because the balance machine won't take into account the lug nuts as it is balancing the wheel.

Thats just my thought.... I have wheel locking nuts.
