for $150 they better be made from kryptonite :cwm27:
Forgive me being slightly noobish, but can someone tell me what a damn TSB is?
its a technical service bulletin- like the pdf i posted the previous page
n3y-18-s70
it's N3Y1-18-S70 as shown in the TSB Zoom44 posted, that is a new plug set number, the previous one was N3Y3-18-S30
edit: actually they say to use the previous number unless flooding occurs, the new set is just a 1 step hotter leading plug (heat range 6): When vehicles experience a engine cranks but does not start concern due to fuel flooding, Mazda recommends the use of the optional “HOT” type leading spark plugs (NGK RE6C-L). The optional “HOT” type spark plug retains more heat which may prevent fouling of spark plugs when the engine is started during cold ambient temperatures. Continue to use the standard spark plug set (N3Y3-18-S30) when spark plug replacement is necessary for vehicle concerns other than no start due to fuel flooding. EXAMPLE: Scheduled maintenance replacement interval, engine misfire, etc.… . |
its the kit for plug and starter together- but yes that makes them the plug pictured in the tsb
I suspect it's $149 for the set too, which isn't too shocking for dealer retail pricing
yep

I complained about this myself, because I had a couple of time last summer when the car died on me and wouldn't start easily. They replaced the battery, but didn't replace the starter. I complained about it again, saying that if the modified starter was not necessary to fix to problem, why is it in all the new RX-8s?
The next time I called service (my car's been in the shop for 2 weeks), they said they were able to authorize the new starter. |
Back to the new flash topic...
While I was there, I talked to one of the service guys who is VERY knowledgeable about the RX-8 and rotaries. We got to talking about the flooding issue, and he said there was going to be a new flash coming out in the next month or two that is supposed to take care of flooding and engine damage problems due to improper oil metering. The flash is ready, but needs to go through EPA tests because it is changing some of the oil metering profiles. He stated that this flash update would be performed as a recall when it is ready. Silly me, forgot to ask him if we were getting a few ponies back :) |
