Arrow Need some advice....

first off
i have an 05 AT shinka with 63k miles.
*important* i had a AEM cold air installed day 5 of owning used car
i have owned car for 6 months no problem

now for some background

ok, long story short, car sat for a week without me using, car flooded. DIY forum did not help, i screwed it up. bit the bullet, free towing, thank god, picked up car, dealer did their thing. Ended up killing my battery, bought new one, at 60k they suggested spark plugs, i said f'it why not. 400 and some dollars later...car works. >.<

NOW. when i hit high RPM's engine light comes on. Every where i ready say its cause of the cold air.. however, it did not do this when i originally had it installed. i figured after they had to reset the cars PCU or whatever something changed.

So i bring the car back they do tests, hook up their equipment to my car and the tech said according to the computer theres all these error codes and mis fires. they then say i need a new engine. i have this extended warranty, and its covered at no cost.
ok sweet.

now the dilemma ..
now remind out, several oil changes later, spark plugs, then changing the battery, you would THINK they would notice the big *** PIPE running to my engine. From where i was reading this may void the warranty?

Question, should i even bring up that i have this cold air? (not sure why they would not know)

Will they charge me extra to hook it back up?

Should i not say anything? and see what happens?

Or should i have the old air filter put back in, (where i got it done at, for fee$...).. and then swapped back out, after the new engine..just to be safe..?

and on top of that, doesnt a new engine come with new spark plugs? can i demand my money back? any opinions or any comments on any of this? I mean i have 2 weeks till the engine gets here, so i have some time to think about this..

thank
brandon

dude, when they say they will replace it under warranty they should know you have the AEM CAI, how u think they test ur engine without opening the hood ?

so why bother saying anything ?

new engine does not come with new spark plugs. It does come with new water pump and thermostat.

if Im the tech, I rather deal with CAI than stock air box. much less work.

first, what codes are showing?
Some dealerships aren't concerned with the cai (especially AEM or Mazdaspeed).
And, I don't think the new engine comes with spark plugs. However, you could bring up the fact that you just had them replaced by them and they MAY give you a new set... Why would you have to "Demand"...?

one more thing, u never mention coils. if u never replaced those, get it somewhere online now, and tell them to "replace it" while installing the engine.

yes, ignition coils. if they are stock (from the factory) and have never been replaced, you may want to do that (25-30k miles is the general time to change them).
Ask them specifically which codes you got and post them here! Much more knowledge here than most car shops....

yep, ignition coils, well, sounds like u never change them.

I can pretty much tell which CEL you have then.

but again, if they're already telling ya that they will change the engine, just let them, of course, get the coils too. you need 4 of them, give Mazmart a call, he will hook u up with some good deal.

not sure if this helps, only goes on when i hit RPM's. 6k and up. CEL flashes, then stays on. they reset again. i drive test works fine. i punch it a little. hits the 6.5k mark, and bam..

but yeah, ill find out tomorrow
