Since you are a noob, I mean moose, I'll take it easy on you!

The power steering is electric, therefore no fluid or oil.

Vacuum leak can be tricky to find, so I'm going to ask you how do you know you have one?
I'm assuming you had a CEL and read the code for it, so what was the code?
Lastly, is you car stock in terms of the airbox or do you have some aftermarket setup?
Did this just present itself, or has it been there for a long time?

Besides the question I asked above, I would start with all the plastic elbows on the accordian tube. These are the most likely suspects in my opinion. People break them off all the time because they aren't careful. Give them a carefiul look and see if any are cracked.

Might wanna do some reading when time. These will get you started!

So the mechanic just randomly blurted out you have a vacuum leak?
I think he's just BS'ing you. You have any driveability issues whatsoever?
Cars computer is pretty sensitive and if you have a vac leak, you would most likely have a CEL.
I wouldn't worry about it for now if you are running fine.

Dude ... so maybe English is not your first language sooooo ......

The car is stalling, ok.
Hard ignition ... I'm guessing you mean starting the motor.

Stalling can be caused by a dirty maf or ecentric shaft sensor or coils or plugs or wires or like you've mentioned a vacuum leak. BTW the worse kind of vacuum leak is low compression which may well be the problem on an 04 RX8.

Hard starts can mean low compression or poor ignition.

Go get a compression test done.
Come back and post the results.
If it's good ... we will take the next step

I find it hard to believe that you took it to a mechanic for these issues and he said "Vacuum leak" and sent you on your way. Any real mechanic is going to tell you exactly where the leak is, what part he needs to replace and what it's going to cost you. But take some insense...run it up your intake tube and find out where the smoke gets sucked in. But as WCS said...it could be a bunch of other things that in a piston engine would be considered a vacuum leak where on the rotary it's just part of every day life.
