Need advice on brake pad

Hi guys ,

I need to change my brake pads ( rear ) and need some advices , My local dealer wants 1100$ CN ( so 1100$ us ) for replacing my brake pads ! ( both front and rear ) after looking around I found that 1100$ is wayyy too much so I'll probably replace them by myslef. I have a few questions for you :

1- After searching the forums I found the DIY and it seems to be very easy , probabaly 1 hour for each side. Is this correct?

2- since I need to buy the pads , wheres the best place online? I have rotaryfx in mind but do you have any suggestion?

2-On their web site they offer 3 kind of Pads , The mazdaspeed , the OEM and the hawks , since the oem are making ALOT of dust ( is it only me btw..) I would prefer the MS or the hawk but here again do you have any recomendation?

well thats about it !

Thanks in advance! and sorry for my english , its not my first language..

Bullshit...........

That's highway robbery
You can buy a full set of Et-500's or hawks for about 160$ (US). I'm using the Racing Brake ET-500's right now and have only good things to say about them-- Great pedal feedback, low dust

follow the DIY and give yourself a 1-2 hours and be done with the fix with a bundle of cash left in your pocket.

Check some of our vendors here for prices. Call them tho, prices can always be different then what is advertised.

I highly recommend ceramics if you do strictly street driving. They dust very little and make NO noise whatsoever. They don't seem to sacrifice any street performance as far as I can tell.

Ceramic pads are a MUST for people with chrome/polished custom wheels that they want to try and keep dust free as long as possible.

You can get ceramic pads for $50-100 per axle from many sources. I have autozone duralast ceramic pads on my 8, been there for 2 years and have yet to hear a single squeal.

1 hour each side sounds right for your first time. I can swap out all my pads in well under an hour. Hell I replaced all 4 rotors and pads in under an hour and a half.

yes well, I can't wait to see his next post when he tries to do the rears on his own. Someone in canada get over there and help the guy so he doesn't hurt anything including himself.

On that note I have hawks pads. They do squeal, they are not full ceramic, but my brakes have wonderful stopping power.

It is hard to beat the feel and initial bite of factory pads. I have seen a few postings on factory pads in the for sale section for a good price lately.

This is coming from someone that owns a set of Racing Brake ET500 pads, which are also good pads, but are not entirely silent and requires some heat. Once they bite, they will bite harder than OEM pads and will produce less dust.

Spin9k, have you had a chance of changing your rear brake pads?

The front pistons are just pushed back in. The rear pistons must be pushed and turned clockwise to be pushed in.

In the rear...about 5 times...and rotors once, it's really very simple.

Yes, but in other threads a few whom discussed changing their rears had problems compressing their pistons to install the new pads. May be they didn't have the right tools to align the ****/notch on the pad into the groove of the piston.
Here's the link I used from a Workshop Manual

I've changed mine at least twice and this was the tool I used. It is also available at AutoZone and other local auto parts stores.

Outstanding , that's exactly what I did. Rubber mallet and a flathead, hammered it until loose and used a C-clamp. Surprisingly, the piston turns clockwise to compress

Yes well before he starts mixing and matching these suggestions, I am sure someone with an RX8 up there can help him. Not to mention he has never jacked the car up before, and we don't even know if he knows how to clean and re lube the proper components so that his calipers still float freely.

1. About so it may take longer since this is your first time doing a brake pad change.

2. We sell the Racing Brake ET500 which would be an ideal choice for you since they are a ceramic pad. Hawk are also a great pad as well. We also offer shipping to Canada for a fairly reasonable price and ship USPS so you can save on duties and other associated fees.

3. We have the ET500 in stock along with other brake upgrades you may want or need like brake fluid and or brake lines.

Shoot me a pm and I can give you pricing depending on what pad you decide. Shipping is ~$25-$30 to Canada for brake pads.

I know I'm late on this but $1100 cdn is not only robbery but just plain wrong. You can do it yourself. Buy a jack, 2 jack stands, 2 cans of brake cleaner, pads and 2 hours of your time and your out $200 US. Pick up a chilton manual or use the forum for step by step instructions.
