Nav System Question

I have seen a few posts about being able to view your speed on the nav system, can you tell me how to get to that screen, I have tried and cannot figure out how to set it up. Thanks!

Actually, it's not on the nav display. If you look to the left there's a needle in the dash called the tach. embedded in the tach dial there's a digital display, some numbers from 1-3 digits. That's your speed.

Having a bad day 8_wannabe? I thought you'd be in a good mood getting your baby fixed and all... :D

Blue Demon: You can't get your speed through the Nav, as far as I know. I'm sure Mazda would not like you seeing satellite proof that their speedometer is 2-3% off:

Odometer/Speedometer Accuracy

There was this pic posted a while back suggesting the possibility of getting a speedometer through the NAV, but I think it was just a prototype:

I have found a speed listing in the NAV system as well as the location to adjust the distance accurancy if the wheel diameter changes. If you go to the setup menu and select unit info (I think its on the first page) you will get a screen that shows the copyright data for the disc. Then go up three times down three times and up two times. At least I think that is right, if it doesn't work do a search on resetting the NAV and it has the instructions to get into the setup menu. From their do some digging. I like to have the satalite display up because it also shows altitude. The page that shows speed always shows zero for me. Look around and see what you can find. The reset will clear all marked points if you have any. You can also look at the total distance the NAV system has tracked so far. Have fun.

Woah! Cool. I figured the unit info screen would be a waste of my time. Thanks jtdwab. Guess I need to stop and smell the roses a bit...

I found a thread that gives a bit more specific info on getting to the system info screen... it's through a back door, which I didn't quite understand when I originally read jtdwab's post... here is the same info, a bit better organized:

1. Open the menu
2. Choose "setup menu"
3. Choose "system information"
4. Choose "version"
5. Push the joystick forward 3 times
6. Push the joystick rearward 3 times
7. Push the joystick forward 2 times

A new menu will appear.

I have not tried it, but this is what was reported in the following post:

The new menu is pretty cool. I like to play with it while my wife is driving. Its more complex (more to read) then the regular menus so the recomendation for not operating while driving is worth remembering.

I want to get out to the car and play with it for a bit. I was not able to get the speed to register... it just said 0km/hour, no matter how fast I was traveling. I also found the Lat/Long info I was looking for -- thanks jtdwab! -- but it seems that there is no way to set a destination that way. I also was not able to confirm that the Lat/Long info is continuously updated, although I am sure it must be updated inside the computer for the NAV system to work. This whole menu system needs to get documented... sounds like a project for this weekend

While playing with this today I did find one screen that displayed a working speed indicator in km/hr... It was noticeably slower than than the speedo (partially because I have lower profile winter tires on). I also found the screen that just displays 0km/h regardless of speed that you ran into. I'll play around later and see which menu option pulled that up- there's an awful lot of options in there to play with! : )

Sean (and anyone else playing with this):

Do be careful about what you do on these screens. I don't know, but one or two of the options may be dangerous, particularly anything related to "upgrading" the software. Since none of us have the upgrades or even the original firmware (I suspect), there is the chance you could wipe your system and need a dealer's help to reset it.

I gave myself a scare on the "White Screen" test. Yes, it turns the screen white - totally white. I had no idea how to get the screen to stop being white. In the end, I shut down the car (being sure it was warm!) and, thankfully, it came back as good as ever.

Personally, I love finding back doors. Now we just need a way to pull the data out and into a laptop!
