my car wont start?!?!

so heres the full story. last week i didn't drive my rx8 for about 2 weeks and my battery went dead. im assuming that happens because it happens at dealership lots so i thought it was somewhat normal. anyway today a week later or actually 5 days later, i tried to turn on my car. battery seemed fine...but the car wouldn't start up. you hear the engine rocking noise (voom voom voom...) like its trying really hard but never ignites fully. You see the car starting to die if you hold it in too long which i tried just to test it. anyway i had roadside assitance help me jump it cuz i thought it was the battery again. turns out its not the battery?! so they towed to my dealership! AHHHH....dealership said it might be a flood? i dunno...someone also said it might be the alternator or the starter isn't working properly? i dunno again...someone gimme some insight pleaseeeee thanks in advance i know you tech guys know your stuff so please help me out here thanks!

The battery should not go dead just because you haven't used it for two weeks, on a new car. That's not normal and indicates there is a problem somewhere. Maybe it's the battery or maybe some of the circuitry connected to it but for some reason it is not holding its charge.

You probably couldn't start it later because the battery was down on power (not dead but not fully charged enough to start the car). Then, after turning it over for a while and not managing to start it the engine will probably get flooded. But the flooding is not the original problem, the real problem that needs to be fixed is why the battery is losing charge.

I'm assuming that the car being flooded and the battery not holding its charge is covered under the mazda warranty correct? With your statement, its reassuring the problem that I have with this car. It's almost exactly as you put it.

The tech at the Mazda garage just keeps blabbering about how it might not be covered under the warranty and that its 93.50/hour and blah blah blah...I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING TO VOID IT FROM WARRANTY! haha...anyway...thanks for your response

yes i got my car back the same day. an easy fix. it was flooded. it seems you must make sure to warm the engine up if you ever start the car. before it stalled i had merely moved it 20 feet in my driveway, not warming the engine up enough. dealer said he had they had 2 previous 8s in the same week. cold weather makes the problem worse

i got the same response from my tech. it got fixed the same day unfortunately i can't pick it up till tomorrow (busy schedule ) anyway, they replaced the battery, spark plugs and changed the oil. they said it was flooded like crazy...(i dunno?) and they gave me a nice carwash...so from now on, MUST WARM UP and COOL DOWN...thanks for all the input fellas

Mine made it to the service dept on a flat bed truck as well becuase of flooding. The service manger advised me 2 new RX8s flooded while they were attempting to take them off of the truck carrier. Plus for this engine the cost of replacement plugs is plugs $120 -- Ouch!!

Angry Mad my car won't start...I'm Pissed!

I am having the sme problem with my car not starting. It seems to me that there are quite a few of us with this same problem. If I new I couldn't just get in my BRAND NEW car and start it everyday, I would never have bought it. This is bull sh*t! This is a bigger issue than the buy back about horsepower. We should all get together and form a class action suit against these A-holes!I am having the sme problem with my car not starting. ....my friend. this is a case of "did you RTFM?"

did you read the manual?? did you see the section where it says "do not shut off the motor unless it's warm"??

for the record (and millionth time): the engine, because of its fundamental design (with the spark plugs on the side of the engine) has a tendancy to flood during the warm up cycle (where the ECU is running the car a little rich around idle until that little "engine cold" light goes off), and be difficult/ to start without a few de-flooding measures taken. they're neither difficult or complicated, but must be done.

nothing is broken in the car, and there isn't a huge amount of damage either. considering that the fuel has been sitting there for a while, you will probably have a little bit of gas in your oil: big enough deal to change it?? i'm not sure.
if you have any mechanical ability, well, you'd probably already know how to fix it, but the fix isn't that tough.

pull the plugs, and clean them. turn the motor over slowly (i've heard "by hand" from RX-7 owners, as 2nd Gen owners suffer from leaky primary injectors) to try and move the fuel out of the engine. put your clean plugs back in, foot to the floor, and crank the engine. i'm not recommending you do this for kicks, but if you already know what you're doing (which you may not).

in that case, phone the dealer, make them pay for the tow, and get them to change your oil etc.

seems like you didn't do your research before you bought the car. your fault.
