Midpipe/Cat/Premix Question

Please correct me if I am on the wrong path. The cat in the 2004 I just bought only has 12,000 miles on it. I am thinking that since i am starting to premix, that I may hasten its demise. I plan to run 1 oz of Amsoil Saber Professional per gallon. So I was thinking i would replace the cat with a midpipe - currently thinking of the one from Racing Beat.

So, does this make sense?

Subsequent question is should I be looking for a 2.5" midpipe? I don't want to cause a problem in the exhaust flow given that the cat-back portion will be the stock exhaust.

Two other factors: I also want this to be as quiet as possible and I only do HPDEs twice per year. The rest of the time this is my daily driver, including winter.

Thanks!

Wow Thats wayy too much. 13oz per full fuel tank?!
You don't need that.
Just use 1/3oz per gallon. Works for me

I use 8-12 depending on the use of the car. 8oz for everyday driving, 12oz for track events.

I have had the car 2,000 miles/3 weeks and haven't seen it use much oil. Supposedly has had it software revisions although i haven't had a dealer confirm it. Just says they did it on the dealer's service history and the Mazda warranty history. I am at 35k. Is there anything to be cleaned out of the OMP? I don't know how good the past owners were about changing the oil. i changed it about 1000 miles ago. I have also redlined it at least daily.

Btw, since i bought it I have changed plugs, engine/cabin filter, coolant, trans and diff fluid. It idles more consistently due to premix and plugs.

Only TC-W3 premix is hard on the cat. Amsoil Saber Pro will be fine for your cat but you are using too much.

That being sad, a mid pipe will get you some decent HP but you have to choose wisely and know that with a mid pipe, cruising in traffic with the windows down gets smelly and standing near your car while its running is not an option unless you like smelling like gas and oil.

Lastly, mid pipes are generally loud so choose wisely.

Might as well get a mid-pipe with a high-flow cat in it. Compared to a straight mid-pipe, it will be quieter, won't smell as bad (although you will still smell it), no CEL, and replacing it is much cheaper than an OEM cat. Oh yeah, and it will still make good power.

Nothing better than a gutted supercat connected to an AP catback. It is..... the smell and sound of glory!!! *sniffs the air*

I was thinking Racing Beat dual resonator or BHR single resonator and stock cat back. The smell probably won't bother me but loud will. I'm 49 and the only place I want to hear it is at the track. Home and work ar not the places I want to be making a lot of noise.

Still open to suggestions - the best hi flow cat? The quietest midpipe?

^ It all comes down to, "what is your opinion of loud" to me, my set up was quiet when I wanted it to be and loud when I put the pedal to the metal. BUT, my opinion may not be the same as yours. so, your best bet is to head out to some local meets and check out what other ppl's setups are. RB dual Res is new, so noone really has it, so it may be a lil hard to find someone with it. Another dude here on the coast, has a gutted super cat as I do, but has an RB catback and his is about half as "loud" as mine when he floors it. though, it is still the same volume/ "loudness" as mine when he/we are cruising.

I have the SR motor sports cat less mid pipe with the stock cat back and it sounds great at throttle and just a tad more aggressive at idle.

Come spring time, I'll show you my setup. Though KIT is gone, I have my AP and I'll pick up a gutted super cat again or a straight midpipe and let you hear what I had/have

P0443 makes my Car Idle Rough

I got this Code on my Car but wasn’t sure what was making my Car idle very strong . I was Told about Premixing your car makes the idle strong . But can someone explain the Cause of this ? I got my Plugs 2 years ago brand new . And ever since I started itemizing my Rx8 . Through time it started to make it Rough on my engine . I was told it could be a Vacuum Leak but I’m not Too Sure of the Purge Valve solenoid . Any reason to why that would happen ?

Premixing doesn't do anything for your idle.
You can verify a vacuum leak by looking at the fuel trims at idle via the OBD plug.
It could be a lot of things, best thing to do first is see if there are any check engine codes. Is the check engine light on?

You haven't mentioned if the coils have been replaced recently. Really need those.
