and I was offered S$60 for the same stuff by her.... Seriously, S$200 for 4 litres of oil, that is developed by some oil companies which we don't even know... I would rather go with the big names like Mobil, Castrol, Shell any time any day... Think about the focus and attention these companies put solely on oil and lubrication development as compared to merely lending names over some unknown brand. How much more superior would this S$200 oil perform over well established oil companies which retails not more than S$90?

Agreed.

Actually the only oil dat interests me now is Royal Purple. SAM is using it and he says its not too bad. The Americans claims 2-3 HP increase too.

SAM, care to comment?

Royal Purple? Sounds like some exotic imported oil as well... How can oil increase hp? Smoothness yes. Engine protection yes. Boost hp? Need more details on this!!

200 bucks for 4 litre of oil!! Frankly, I would rather change my oil twice as offen with the like of Mobil 1. With clean oil, I think the engine would be a happier engine then feeding it less frequent with expensive oil.

As for Royal Purple, there are quite a bit of debate in the forum here as well. Some say its snake oil, some say it works wonder, only Racing Beat claims that 2-3 hp gain, some think otherwise. It's just like: to use mineral or synthetic?? If it's not too expensive, I would mind trying RP.

Neon, is SAM as in the Sound Master?

thanks for the feedback peoples...had a look at the can today, apparently its "made for rotaries" ie. some rotary specific oil, with the big mazdaspeed logo in front- and supposedly the same oil that the 787B used in its lemans win. oh well. what's funny is that Kimiko keeps insisting that using any other oil will spoil your engine... but thats no justification for $200! (its $50 per litre if you don't get a receipt from her). Give me HKS or Castrol or Mobil 1 ..at least its proven! =)

Nope, its the silver mazdaspeed bodykit SAM. Hes actually mixing them too cuz RP only comes in 5-20 and 10-40 or something like dat, so he mixes them. Its not expensive, last i remembered he said 1 litre for about 12 bucks.

Honestly speaking, i think synthetic's too thin for our engine. Mineral is betta. As for MS oil - forget it guyz. You need 300$ to fully support the service, remember u have to top up even b4 5000KM.

2F2F, get SAM to respond!!!!

I am using Mobil1 now and cuz i have installed the oil guages (Defi), it seems the oil KPA always go below 1.5. Minimum for engines shud be 2Kpa at least or dat is wad i have been told. Been using HKS but becoz the oil was near empty so i top it up with Mobil which is cheaper. Wil monitor the next HKS refil and see if its stil running too thin.

RX8_666 is using Mineral tho. Care to comment?

I'm moving this to the Tech forum -- I think I've seen this discussed there before.

Don't be too harsh Jason, the posters are talking about Singapore Dollars, which are worth just over half a US Dollar.

The RP is working good on my car as compare to mobil 0-40 , HKS 0-40, FK 7.5-40, i had mixed the RP10-40 & 15-40, will monitor the oil level .

I can't let this one slide. What does "too thin" mean here? Synthetic oils, just like mineral oils, have specific viscosity ratings that they meet. There is no "thinness" or "thickness" requirement other then the required standards published by the vehicle manufacturer, and there are synthetic oils that meet these requirements, just like there are mineral oils that meet them.

Wow, Mazda oil is produced by Castrol which I get at Walmart for $1.86 a quart.

As for your buddy goes, my buddy says it is one quart to every 8000 gallons. Yes, it is very strong. What it is, got me, I only consume the final product.
