mine sounds like more of a squeeking. I took it to the dealer and they said the blots holding the AC line were coming loose and they tightened them, seemed to do the trick. I have to tighten them up now and again b/c the roads around wher I live are crap and covered with potholes and bumps.

Well it's fantastic that your dealer happened to find the problem that quickly. Unfortunately for the majority of us, our dealers aren't so competant. I've left my car twice with them just returning it saying "use higher octane gas." Believe me, none of us are just sitting here bitching for no reason. We have to bring this to Mazda's attention so dealers know how to fix it.

thanks -- in today's world we do have a responsibility to do our best to help our dealers appropriately diagnosis. I would ask them if it could be fluid in the heater core -- agian, the test is easy. As a reminder, the heater core is directly behind the glove compartment so if you have the same problem, the noise will come from behind the glove compartment.
Everyone of my friends who have heard this noise has opened up the glove compartment to see if there is something rattling around

after hearing this noise on two brand new rx8's on the lot and on my car, i am under the impression that all the cars have this noise -- it may be louder in some than others and some people may be tuned into it more than others
nice test skopiec, you could always just have a friend crimp it quickly when it very loud and see (hear).

dhallag - I can't wait for your results- did they just like that agreed to replace the heater core under warranty? it is a lot of work...
belive it or not but my marbles are gone! have you heard yours during winter time? it is about +1 celcius (33 Fahrenheit) now in Warsaw, so I was wondering if it has anything to do with the ambient temperure...
As I said before i have restricted the coland flow for two times (I can take a picture to show where exactly) and driven the car hard for a while... after that the marbles seamed to get more and more quiet... and now I havent heared them for a while... I just hope they won't come back when it gets warmer...

I didn't start hearing the marbles until winter but I'm guessing that is just a coincidence. It seems to get better (less noisy) after about 30 minutes of driving. Last night after 30 minutes of driving I tried to reproduce the noise and got almost no marble sound. It was nice to hear the rotary by itself again. That said my marbles are still not gone.

I don't think my marbles are quite as intense as yours to begin with if I judge your recording correctly anyway. It is a good recording: It sounds just like what I have but not as prevalent compared to the engine noise.

Yes, they are replacing under warranty. Yes, it is a huge job which I am actually a little scared about. Yes, I can hear in the cold weather although it seems to take longer to appear.

I havent really noticed this problem in my 2006 GT, but started to really listen for it when redlining the car and even out of gear pushing the RPM's up to 9000. I have heard the sound clips and it seams to be loud. I think I hear it but not sure so I rev it again, and again not sure if I do or do not hear it. I have about 7000 miles on the car.
