mine sounds like more of a squeeking. I took it to the dealer and they said the blots holding the AC line were coming loose and they tightened them, seemed to do the trick. I have to tighten them up now and again b/c the roads around wher I live are crap and covered with potholes and bumps.

dhallag 12-11-2006 06:51 PM

no jimmy69, it just took them that long to diagnosis the problem. I live in GA.

zenmoused 12-12-2006 12:35 AM

Well it's fantastic that your dealer happened to find the problem that quickly. Unfortunately for the majority of us, our dealers aren't so competant. I've left my car twice with them just returning it saying "use higher octane gas." Believe me, none of us are just sitting here bitching for no reason. We have to bring this to Mazda's attention so dealers know how to fix it.

dhallag 12-12-2006 08:34 AM

thanks -- in today's world we do have a responsibility to do our best to help our dealers appropriately diagnosis. I would ask them if it could be fluid in the heater core -- agian, the test is easy. As a reminder, the heater core is directly behind the glove compartment so if you have the same problem, the noise will come from behind the glove compartment.

Everyone of my friends who have heard this noise has opened up the glove compartment to see if there is something rattling around

I tried constricting the heater core hoses with a zip tie - seemed to make the marbles much quieter. Any one else try this. My heat still works fine.

after hearing this noise on two brand new rx8's on the lot and on my car, i am under the impression that all the cars have this noise -- it may be louder in some than others and some people may be tuned into it more than others

nice test skopiec, you could always just have a friend crimp it quickly when it very loud and see (hear).

LionZoo 12-12-2006 08:02 PM

That's my impression too. It also comes and goes randomly; I have no idea why.

TKE 12-12-2006 08:39 PM

If every 8 makes this noise that does not make this "normal". It is a defect with the heater core. Mazda should man up and admit their mistake and issue either a TSB or recall.

dhallag 12-13-2006 11:23 PM

TKE... no... there is no car that should have this problem.

nycgps 12-13-2006 11:39 PM

I just got this feeling that its just something loose on their part.

Im still trying to find a long wire microphone so I can tell where the noise came from.

Mazda is ordering me a new heatercore. It won't be in till after the holidays. I'll let everyone know if this fixes the problem.

Mike54 12-29-2006 11:50 AM

dhallag - I can't wait for your results- did they just like that agreed to replace the heater core under warranty? it is a lot of work...

belive it or not but my marbles are gone! have you heard yours during winter time? it is about +1 celcius (33 Fahrenheit) now in Warsaw, so I was wondering if it has anything to do with the ambient temperure...

As I said before i have restricted the coland flow for two times (I can take a picture to show where exactly) and driven the car hard for a while... after that the marbles seamed to get more and more quiet... and now I havent heared them for a while... I just hope they won't come back when it gets warmer... :Freak_ani

Shinka-Dono 12-30-2006 02:07 PM

I didn't start hearing the marbles until winter but I'm guessing that is just a coincidence. It seems to get better (less noisy) after about 30 minutes of driving. Last night after 30 minutes of driving I tried to reproduce the noise and got almost no marble sound. It was nice to hear the rotary by itself again. That said my marbles are still not gone.

nope - not in my case - when the marbles where there they didn't go away even after 200-300km of almost constant driving...

jimmy69 12-31-2006 10:07 AM

can any of you get the noise just by reving it out of gear?...i can just rev it to 8k rpms while out of gear and still get the noise....car does not have to be moving for me to hear the noise.

yes it can be heard by reving in neutral - it was described many times, for example on this thread

https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...6&page=8&pp=15

there is my recording while driving

and on neutral:

IT WAS POSTED ON THIS THREAD... Page 3... :fingersx:

jimmy69 01-01-2007 11:49 AM

^^^ sorry didn't read every post there......did you find out what it is or get anything done about it?

After more driving with the marbles I found that the reduction in noise after 30 minutes is a fluke. It seems they stick around and only rarely are reduced after a while of driving.

I don't think my marbles are quite as intense as yours to begin with if I judge your recording correctly anyway. It is a good recording: It sounds just like what I have but not as prevalent compared to the engine noise.

Old Rotor 01-01-2007 06:37 PM

Yours sounds like Water in the Heater core. Mine is detination.

dhallag 01-03-2007 08:43 AM

Yes, they are replacing under warranty. Yes, it is a huge job which I am actually a little scared about. Yes, I can hear in the cold weather although it seems to take longer to appear.

yess... that is a good news for me! I hope they are gone for good! :)

MARBLES ---> :tank:

Senna 01-13-2007 01:02 PM

Did they get the part in yet?

reidswitch 01-13-2007 06:17 PM

I havent really noticed this problem in my 2006 GT, but started to really listen for it when redlining the car and even out of gear pushing the RPM's up to 9000. I have heard the sound clips and it seams to be loud. I think I hear it but not sure so I rev it again, and again not sure if I do or do not hear it. I have about 7000 miles on the car.
