Maf cleaned

Okay so the car was very bad on my fuel going from 23mpg highway to 17mpg and 14 in the city... I took out my MAF and it was filthy... I used a cotton swab and alcohol ( be very careful so you do not break the thin sensors ) here are the pics..

p.s sorry camera phone is bad lol The little sensors are soooo shinny now..

I always just use a spray and let it air dry! I'd hate to ruin it with too much pressure...
Don't forget to do the 20 break pedal stomp

I use a contact cleaner and a cotton swab too, especially for the IAT. That thing gets filthy as hell!

okay just took it for a drive, and I can feel the difference, especially on idle, just sits at 850rpm and barely moves, now lets see if it helped the gas, i'm halfway between quarter and half and only have 60km on the tank :S

that's why they make aerosol MAF cleaner n00b ...

the 20 brake pedal stomp is not used here, pull the room fuse out for 5 minutes from the driver side fuse panel to reset the PCM fuel trims

THANK YOU....
It appears that misinformation is being spread around lately and that resetting the NVRAM (20x brake stomp) is becoming as common as changing ignition coils for everything in the world.
Only way to clear the KAM (such as fuel trims) is by disconnecting the battery or pulling the room fuse as Team mentioned above.

If you're already that far into something - you may as well clean it.
Pride WILL make the car go faster.

Not to knock TEAM, though... He seems to know what he's talking about.

lol, well I knew what it was for but I might as well clean it since its out, and thanks for the info on the 20 brake pump, I will disconnect the fuse. So okay my question is then what does the 20 break pump really do, when would it be necessary to put in to action ? im broke as hell right now, but the next project is plugs wires and coils, hopefully that will fix my gas problem, and slow acceleration.. now one more question I noticed some iridium plugs from greddy that are 23 a pair, and others are 50 and up? any one ever use those ? and the heat rating is 10.5 which I'm going to research now but maybe someone can answer before i find it.

p.s i told my wife I was called a noob and she made a sandwhich and burnt an 8 in to the top of my sandwhich

The NVRAM is used to memorize the profile of the eccentric shaft positioning plate.
The 20x brake stomp clears the profile and allows the PCM to relearn it.
Its required when doing a motor or PCM swap, but also anything that deals with the e-shaft such as cleaning and/or removing the e-shaft sensor, removing the position plate, or the actual pulley.

Its not going to hurt anything... we just don't want people to think this might cure their problem when it doesn't pertain to it.
Reason why there is a separate area of the PCM for this is so when the KAM is cleared (disconnect battery or pull the room fuse), it doesn't clear the NVRAM.
The 20x brake stomp is the only way to clear the NVRAM.
