Machining Rotors?
My 8 now has ~24.5k miles and I brought it the the dealership today along with the squeeking brakes TSB. The dealership called me not too long ago and said they needed to machine the rotors and that it would cost ~$70. The tech also said it was absolutely necessary. Is it?

My local Napa charges $8 - $10 each for carry in. The dealer probably isn't too far outta line with his price when you figure labor of taking it apart and putting it back together. If your rotors are warped, yes you need it done. If there are gouges in it, yes you need it done. If they are glazed, yes you need it done. THose are the only reasons I can think of at the moment.

$70 for all 4?? If so, that is not bad when you consider the labor involved. I used to work at an autoparts store when I was in college. It takes about 30-40 mins to turn 4 rotors and that was with carry-in customers. We used to charge $10 a piece for a small car rotor.
$70 really isn't that expensive.

Mine did it for free under warranty at 20k miles. I guess it depends on if your dealership cares enough about you as a customer if they will take care of things like this.
