List of compatible oil filters

List of oil filters that will fit the 8:

AC Delco PF2135
AMSOil SMF103
Bosch 3300 (2.5) Bosch 3323 (3.25)
Carquest 85358
Fram PH6607
K&N 303 and 303c (chrome)
Mobil 1 M1-108 (2.5) Mobil 1 M1-110 (3.25)
NAPA Gold 1358
Purolator PL14612 (2.5) PL14610 (3.25)
STP SMO 17
WalMart SuperTech ST7317
WIX 51358

NOTE: (2.5) & (3.25) = inches long

I copied this list from the Yamaha FZ6 forum on Sportbikes.net. The FZ6 (same basic engine as R6) uses the same filter as the RX-8 (as is stated in several other posts on this forum). I have an '05 FZ6 and just got an '07 RX-8. Original post located here:
http://www.sportbikes.net/forums/sho...75#post1788575http://www.sportbikes.net/forums/sho...75#post1788575

I haven't seen a list (all in one thread) of all the compatible filters on this forum yet and I wanted to contribute. Feel free to add others to the list that aren't mentioned here.

I called NAPA and they claim to stock the WIX 51358. However, on their store computer system it is not listed as an RX8 compatible filter. A check on NAPA's website reveals the fol for the 2005 model year:

Oil Filter (ProSelect): SFI 21365
Oil Filter (NASCAR): NFI 91365
Oil Filter (Gold): FIL 1365
Oil Filter - K&N Filters: BK 7355557

When I walked into the store and asked for a Wix filter, they handed me a NAPA Gold 1365. As explained by a store assistant, the NAPA Gold is "thicker" than the Wix.

I have always bought Mazda filters, but as of late, due to work hours I am physically unable to purchase a Mazda filter from the dealership. A little rx8clubbing revealed that RG uses Wix, so I began searching for Wix alternatives to OEM.

Well, it's a good thing I have a quick-drain plug, so no need to buy any OEM crush washers. This means I can try to fit the NAPA Gold 1365 tomorrow. There is no mention of the 1365 on rx8club, until now. Maybe this is for rx7 and their computer is wrong?

Please click these text links for the photos. Clicking on the thumbnails will do nothing for you, because I am hosting the higher res photos.

The NAPA Gold 1365 worked. Both OEM and 1365 were the same height and the o-rings were the same diameter. 1365 looked like it had 1 more set of threads however.

Wixfilters.com lists the oil filter as 51365
Here's the spec sheets for each...
http://www.wixfilters.com/filterlook...asp?Part=51365
http://www.wixfilters.com/filterlook...asp?Part=51358

If you don't want to click here is the differences between the 51365 vs 51358

Height - 2.57 / 2.78
OD - 2.685 / 2.685
Bypass valve PSI - 8-11 / 8
Flow Rate GPM - 9-11 / 8-10
Burst Pressure PSI - 300 / 265
Nominal Micro Rating - 19 / 14

Seems like the correct filter (51365) seems like the higher grade piece.

Fram also has a High Flow filter that in my opinion is what is ideal. Check it out, and its still decently inexpensive.

My two cents.

I don't plan on updating the list every time filters are added. That wasn't my original intent. If someone wants to maintain a single, constantly updated list, please go for it.
