K&N Air Filter issue (pcitures)

Hi Guys,

Just wondering if anyone has had problems with the K&N Air filter, the guy I brought my '04 off put one on, however its not working. The point of an Air filter is to 'filter' however when I took it off to clean it, there was grass and crap down on the grate near the top of the pipe- has anyone had this problem?

Also - Others who have put this on, have you found it didn't fit properly - if you have a look at the pictures - you can see its been squashed to fit into the box. Will this effect the performance, and should I just get rod of the box altogether?

Thanks,

EDIT: Sorry for the crap quality pics...was taken on my phone....

Looks like someone completely hacked the airbox and shoe horned a cone onto the tube. Go back to stock. Stock has nothing but a tube with a horn at the end, two screens in the tube, and a panel filter.

gotta love all these retards who just "keep doing it wrong", then turn around and said the car sucks and Im going to sell it to the next sucker.

your 8's previous owner is a ******* idiot. yep. I said it.

take that **** out and put a stock filter back in, well ur pic is pretty blurry so im not sure if the previous retard hack the box up completely, if it is, well, do a WTB post on this forum to buy a stock airbox, usually pretty cheap.

Yeah, as I thought. Such a stupid thing to do, doesn't seem to be doing anything wrong - I don't have the stock air filter , however I think I may be able to get one online. any ideas where you can buy these things?

The problem is I think (lets call him Mr.Stupid) Has actually sawn off the entire pipe and attached this with some wiring, I didn't even notice until I decided to clean the Ffing thing.

I don't know how much damage has been done, but at least it seems to be working ok atm....I have heard so many stories on here of putting on beefy air filters, only to have rough idles etc, but she still runs like a dream...
Thanks for the info guys.

MrStupid has some explaining to do. :P

Go buy a K&N replacement. OEM air filter will do just fine and may filter more than K&N but won't last a life time like K&N. Your choice.

BTW, take off that stupid cone and take a picture of what remains behind it. There is supposed to be a horn with a tube attached to it. I pretty sure it's all hacked to **** now.

Well the choice is your on which air filter to chose from. Dealers sell the factory air filters, but so do many of the RX8 parts sites such as the ones in the vendors section on this forum. K&N is commonly sold at most auto parts stores also.

Before you decide on which filter to purchase, take off the cone and see what is left of the air box and if it is still usable.

Most auto parts stores carry the OEM replacement filters.
