Just bought a 05' RX8, question about transmission
I've never driven a manual before, so this is a first. But my question is:
Is it normal for when i'm driving in first and am at maybe 4000rpm and press down the clutch, that it makes kind of a spinning noise? It's one of those things where it's hard to explain it, but it sounds like something is still spinning. I can't notice it in any other gears, just first.
Is this something that may be going wrong with the transmission? Or is it something with first gear and the engine?
Thank you for any help!

Yeah, I was thinking it could be coming from the engine, since it's when i put the clutch down. It's not making that noise when i shift gears.
We'll see, i brought it into the dealership today to get that, and a few other things looked at.

Well, the dealership just called me:
All of my headlights/taillights got condensation in them. So they put in 4 brand new headlights and taillights.... I thought this was strange that all 4 were bad.... Good thing i'm still under warranty.
As far as the noise goes when clutching from first, they said everything is fine, even though it does make the noise i mentioned... So i'm not too sure what to think about that. And i wonder if maybe they're hearing the noise i'm mentioning.
I bought the car less than a month ago, 2005 w/ 26,000 miles on it. I wanted them to run the compression tests to make sure the engine is okay. The car had a rough idle and i made them aware of the problem which is why i wanted them to check for compression. Well, there were 3 or so recalls that the original owner had never had done, so they did those and he said that one of the recalls they did fixed the hard idle issue, and said that they had no reason to go through the work to do the compression tests....
Idk, but that kind of bothers me, it would make me a much happier guy knowing that they ran the tests and the engine was okay... O well, i suppose i've got 5 years left on the engines warranty (thank you mazda), but still.

I just changed my 2005's, 20k miles, manual transmission and differential fluids this weekend. Since the M/T is subject to human intervention it was dirtier than the differential fluid. Actually the diff'l, with its relatively simple and always well meshed rings, pinions and spider gears, wasn't very dirty at all.
You may want to change your M/T fluid. Many of us here use Redline MT90 (arguably better than Royal Purple in our application).

Mine makes a whirring noise when I have it in neutral but goes away when I put the clutch in, very annoying so if you guys come up with anything give a heads up for a guy. I think my clutch is slipping to cause some times when im in 5th or 6th gear and i give it some gas the rpms go up as if the thing was an automatic then it goes back down and it goes a little faster.... any ideas?
