So since I haven't been to work in a few days, I finally got around to installing my RB Oil Temp/Pressure adapter along with my Nordskog temp gauge.
Here's a few pics, but I would like a couple of opinions.

The question is this..................do I paint the rim of the PLX devices gauge in Silver to match the rim on the Nordskog temp gauge, or leave it the hell alone?
Thanks in advance for the opinions.

BTW.............both are setup for the same color blue, but the camera seems to make it them look white depending on distance and angle. Oh, and obviously this was a short time after starting, so not everything was up to temp. It was also raining this morning, so excuse all the water droplets!

Don't hate on the Fram oil filter(next post), they were on sale and since I was doing this and needed to change the oil.........what the hell.

I've just installed the same adaptor with the rotaryFX gauge set but I think mine's weeping a bit. Check yours in a couple of days and let me know how its going - I think the standard O-Ring is a bit light on - may need a thicker one.

I think you should paint it silver to have that uniform look.
Also, the bracket on the back of your newest gauge should probably get a quick coat of black paint.

You need to change that FRAM filter out ...

other than that, I think it looks fine.

No issues so far. Did you put a little oil or grease in the o-ring channel so that it wouldn't slide oout when you turned it over for the install? Are you sure it didn't slip and did you torque it down properly to 25ft lbs?

I have been nervous about it all and will be checking constantly for quite a while.

I considered painting that bracket black and will probably do so when I paint the Silver. I thought about that long and hard, but wanted to get it installed and didn't want to have to wait for the paint to dry. Now I gotta get Silver that matches! Either that, or the Silver rim on the Nordskog will come off and just be black, but I think I would rather have them both be Silver as then it would match the A/C vent and all else.

^............Hey Mr. Autozone...............it was on sale, along with the oil!
If it counts, there was a genuine Mazda filter on there before the oil change, but I had run out of filters. Got like ten for the kids Mazda 3, but they don't fit!

While I was at it..................this morning I changed out my 4 year old battery with a new Redtop as I had detected about two weeks ago that my old stock battery was just starting weaken and didn't want to get stranded........so before work on Monday, thought it was time and not push it any more.

Keep a watch out, I might be selling my spare PLX DM100 OBDII with the OLED display and eveything. I'll be letting it go really cheap if I decide.

do you have any other nordskog gauges in the car?

if so, i'd probably paint the plx gauge bezel silver to keep it all uniform.

if not, go with black.

that damn O ring is a royal pain in the *** to get to sit still long enough to mount the adapter. As Dave mentioned, it might have moved and that's why you have a small leak.


you know what a perfectionist I am.
now hurry up and paint that gauge bracket.

Yes sir..............it may be on tap for tomorrow. Is is one too!

Oh, and I read somewhere that if you put the o-ring in the freezer for a short time it can help as it shrink up just a little bit. I just used new oil, coated it with my finger and all was well. I was able to turn it right side up and shake it a little and it stayed put, so I knew I was good to go. Does seem like a pretty small/cheesy o-ring though.

well, I always avoid any sale with FRAM filter ... I only buy them if : Has to be part of the Good TRUE Synthetic oil, not some fake **** from Pennzoil or Valvoline, and it HAS to have K&N or Mobil1 oil filter

of course it doesnt fit Mazda3 ... it uses the filter only thing inside the plastic cartridge ... n00b

Redtop ... how much you paid for it? dont tell me u got it from Autozone ... lol ...

Im using Redtop, starts everytime without a problem

I had some leak with Greddy's Sandwitch, it has double O-Ring. I did manage to make it stop leaking once, but every oil change will "move" the sandwich somewhat and the leak happens again!

I was like "f-this ****!"

then I bought a brand new Oil filter Sandwich from Anniversary Racing Factory Japan for Rotary engine, Comes with 1 big o-ring, fits perfectly, no leak since day 1. Its a bit expensive (100 something bux!) but ... its worth it in my book

They do make a conversion for the 3, but I just deal with the cartridge....it ain't that bad. It's daughters car, so I'm not going to start modding the hell out of it. Although I did do a few things to it!

Redtop was $144.25 with free shipping from Amazon. I know about the no real warranty thru them, but I figured I try it anyway. No damage with shipping and looks good!

FYI............I always use www.nexttag.com to check stuff out(pricing). Once you know the make and model number, or some info about it....your good to go! Just gotta make sure you don't go with some fly-by-night place and always use a card!

Well, I did try to get Redtop from Amazon, even I know that it will have no warranty from Amazon nor Optima. but I dont have the luck.

When first battery came, the box looks "wet" at the corner. I was like "uhh-oh", and opened the box ... yep, the corner of the battery broke off and stuff inside leaks out. No good. total trash.

Called Amazon and bitch, the lady was pretty nice, and when I told her "the Optima battery is ..." she stopped me and said "Its broken right?", I was like "yeah ... how did you know that?", "Because it happens all the time".

Well, she just shipped me another one, I asked does Amazon want the broken one back cuz its useless, she was like nah, they dont accept any returns on battery cuz its "Hazardous" ???? I was like okay ...

couple days later, 2nd one came, same fate ...

Called again, this time I was like forget it, just give me a refund.



I got another Redtop else where. it cost a little more of course, with warranty. so Im happy.

Yeah did all that I'm thinking though it may need re-torquing now that its had a few cycles of hot and cold. Its not leaking, just noticed a weep at the point is all - still checkiing on it.

paint the silver one black.

cause your dash is black. the silver circle of out of nowhere looks odd. i'd also paint the little bracket black too.

gauges may be nice...but in all honesty it really needs to be in a better housing.

having digital number gauges are cool, but a bitch to make real use of trying to read it while driving. in that case, i'd say get a gauge cover that is located where the navi would go.

other than that... get a RB gauge pod.

it really looks tacky/catchy in that location. and easy for vandals to take notice and steal it...

+1 Paint it, paint both of them if color matching is an issue...other than that it looks good.
