JohnnyMazda here, Yes I've been using Idemitsu 5W-30 and their premix as well in my '04 RX8. Everything seems to run very smoothly, haven't had any issues to date. I like it.
But after reading the exhaustive threads on which oil to use or not use in an RX8, I must admit, I'm a bit confused about the entire dilemma. Mazda should have amended their owner's manual years ago and put an end to this endless debate about the use of synthetic motor oils in rotary engines.
Of all the messages I've read however, about the many different types of motor oil people are using these days, it's a bit ironic that I don't see much in the way of negative effects, leakage, etc. I buy my Idemitsu from MazdaTrix but their shipping fees are high. I find solace in the fact that Idemitsu motor oil was specifically developed, tested & proven to work exclusively in rotary engines, something that can't be said about the many other motor oils on the market. Also, Idemitsu is less expensive than Royal Purple, the only other motor oil I would consider using in my RX8. So give it a go, I'm sure you won't be disappointed knowing it's the only synthetic motor oil developed for rotary engines! Zoom on Bro!
