how the OEM nav housing works?

Hello, I am trying to setup a car pc to work with a touchscreen, however the touch screen will sit in an OEM housing.

My 8 does not have nav to start with. I will be purchasing the nav with the screen and board that controls the tilt and open buttons. But my question is this:

What powers the tilt and open buttons and how can I hook them up in my car, and how have people in the past wired their touchscreens to power? Basically, how can I power the flip up function and the screen?

Any help is appreciated!

There's quite a few threads with many pictures and explanations of exactly what you're asking.

Try searching "Carputer" or Car PC

haha I did, but I'll try again.

I like the effort, even if it is sarcastic

Well I did some more looking... so far have found that you can make your own circuit board and get it all to work... that is less than ideal, so if anyone has any tips on how to get the factory nav working in a car that did not originally have it (and by that I mean the thing to open and tilt like it should) please let me know.

That is EXACTLY what I was looking for!!!! ahhh you're my hero!!!

I actually am trying to make my setup like yours because I really like yours looks like it came with the car.

I might have to pm you a few more times for questions I run into throughout the install process...

Oh, one question about this... is the line for the 12v power(1Q) that you tapped into that goes to the computer always hot? even if the car is off? The acc line comes on when car does, so i assume the 12v 1Q line is constantly hot?

yes, I ran a line directly from the battery to the trunk for my carpc... with a 15amp inline fuse 12 inches from the battery.

i tapped this same line for 1Q because that is one of the necessary wires to get the nav hood to operate in its proper function... it needs to have power when the car is off to auto lower the hood when the key is switched off.

You are mazing!!!

What guage wire(if you can even recall) for this. I assume 8-10 for the battery line to the pc, but you tapped it, so did you continue withe the 8-10 all the way to the nav hood?

i actually ran 16 awg all the way back..

the wire I used for the wiretap to the nav hood was something like 16awg as well, maybe higher.

in hindsight it was recommended to use 10-12 awg wire for that wire.. so you should do that.
