How much money have you spent on mods?
Hey everyone,
I'm looking into getting the RX-8 fairly soon, and have been researching a whole lot about the car and its aftermarket options. Besides the money I'll be spending on monthly payments, gas, and insurance, I hope I will be able to do some modifications. I would like to know what everyone else has done to their car, and about how much it cost. For the sake of this discussion, we'll count anything that makes the car look or perform any different than stock as a modification. I started to get interested in enhancing the performance of my old car, a Mazda Protege, but only got so far as an intake and a few suspension components before I realized that spending much more would be futile, as the car would always be slow and an automatic.

To everyone else with helpful, or atleast sensible replies, thank you. I figured with this being an RX-8 owners forum, there would be a lot of you with significant mods done to the car. I'm not asking because price is an issue, as good quality aftermarket stuff is always going to be a little bit steep. I was just curious how much everyone has done so far, and what it ended up costing. Like I said, I am coming from a cheaper, slower car, where I didn't find a whole lot of enjoyment in putting money into it. I'm looking forward to getting a car that I will own for a while and take pride in customizing. I did some of the stuff with my other car by myself (intake, making a subwoofer enclosure, etc.) but it wasn't always pretty. I'd like to start learning more DIY stuff, and that's what this place is good for.
By the way, some of you have got some damn sexy 8s.

20k including visual mods and Turbo still need to assemble and test of course, but I'm waiting for a new chassis after my ex took a set of keys and thinks she has a right to it killed alot of the car and abandoned it while I was out in my Mustang. I would say the DIY saves a shitload.

Over a grand into my stereo. Some 700 on tires, 190 for tint, short shifter was around 300, maybe 45 on lighting. 375 on coils.
Are we counting waxes, polishing and detailing tools as well? thats easily over 200 bucks more.
I like the cut of your jib.

$25,000 ain't hard to spend; especially if you end up replacing a motor or two; or you don't do your own work.
There is almost nothing untouched on my car; and I have paid a lot extra to keep it stealth...but even so; my 25K doesn't include any real visual mods either - they came with the car.
