How many miles do you get out of a Full Tank?

For some reason i think my rx8 drinks alot. I only seem to get about 170/180 miles out of a full tank. What should be the average?

Rush hour on the Garden state Parkway the ' normal ' speeds for me is 75-80 mph. My 8 gets 20-21 MPH and always has been within EPA ( Except on the track )

Mostly city and I will do 200-215 before light comes on and I drive very hard, so I have been happy.

To avoid this thread become a flame fest the subject of bad mileage has been discussed over and over to the point where there has been nothing new on the subject since the m-flash (summer 2004) Unless your can point to some verifiable mechanical problem the dealer and Mazda will do nothing for a “ My MPG SUCKS “ complaint. Mazda never said you would get 18-24 MPG, the EPA did. The dealership will not drive your car around for two weeks to see what the mileage is and if they ever did they would baby it around town, hitting 6th @ 45 MPH and get over 18 MPG. Bottom line if your car is driving fine there is nothing Mazda will do for bad MPG. Why I get good at least as this car is concerned MPG and others don’t???? There are many things that affect some cars and do not affect others. The only thing I can say is my batch, (the 5/2003) seems to have been one of the better runs of RX-8. 53,000 miles car runs great and I have had few issues.

MOSTLY city driving and I usually fill up around 210-220 (i think) At that point I'm pretty sure the Low fuel light is ABOUT to come on...

Does that help?

I get around 215 per tank.....but I drive fast. My commute is mostly highway.....but hit triple digit speeds every trip. I'm in Michigan though....so triple digit speeds are not uncommon around here. It does seem like my gas milage has gotten worse during the winter months. I used to get 240 per tank.....same driving style. This brings me to another complaint....WTF is up with our 6th gear? It's totally useless when the car is hitting 4K at 80mph.....I can drop into 5th and run 4.5k.....shouldn't the 6th gear ratio be a little better?
Maybe it's just me.

It all depends on how and where you drive your car. I have gotten 13mpg in a week's worth of city driving, but I can tell you that once the engine was warm that week, I need let the revs fall below 5k other than stopping. I generally get aroun 15mpg driving somewhat conservative around the city. On the open highway, like this past weekend's trip, I got 21mpg, that is with cruise set on 64, 73, and 78, each for quite some time.

So considering the light usually comes on at 13 gallons used, that would mean that at 13mpg I would get roughly 170 miles out a tank, at 15mpg I would get roughly 200 miles out of a tank, and on the highway getting 21mpg I would get roughly 275 miles out of a tank.

All depends on how and where you drive, like I said before. Winston-Salem is pretty flat too btw.

I usually hit around 260 to 280 miles, with about 1/8 of a tank left on the guage when I fill up (usually just over 13 gallons). That's 95% highway miles, average speed is probably 75.

Used to be about 220 (~14 gal fill up).
Went up to 240-250 (~14 gal)
Now about 200-210 (~14 gal)

At this rate my MPG will eventually be negative. Oh well, I'll just drive backwards.

i think 340 miles is the farthest i've ever gone on one tank... filled up to 15.5 gallon or something ridiculous... that was on a 250 mile road trip

full tank milage

I got 330 miles to a tank after I got the reflash to "N" with the gastank, lower arm check. Refill was about 15.4 gallons and I was worried it would run out. I drove it really easy with no strong accelerations and mainly all highway. That was my best at about 23.5 mpg. worst was 18mpg getting on it a lot.

I put it away now since Nov. here in northern MN and am driving the new 06 VW Golf TDI getting about 44mpg right from the start, a huge difference in the feel and sound of this diesel motored car.

Charge on !!!!!!!

Yeah, a lot of us wish Mazda put in a taller 6th gear. It would surely get highway gas mileage up. One can say at about 60mph (the speed limit in many urban highways) the RPMS are around 3k, which is close enough to the powerband to make some sudden acceleration if need be during traffic. But who in the right mind with a sports car would go 60 on a 60? Rpms at 2k during a 60mph would be just about right.

As for me, I usually get around 250 miles with hard driving. Something tells me that it's gone down significantly during the winter.

Remember, mpg apparently goes up with the miles put on the rotary.

Yeah, 220 with hard driving, and closer to 275 or so if I'm really careful.

My Record high was 302 Miles, all highway (I live 2 miles from I-75) single trip (hotel was within 1 mile of highway).
Generally I get between 260/280 out of a tank with an even mix of city/highway. My 8 was purchased in 10/03.

Cheers,

Alex
