How do I remove rear wheel hub?

How do I remove rear wheel hub?

I haven't been able to find this info. What are the steps for removing the rear wheel hub? Do I remove the brake caliper and rotor and yank it off with a hub puller and slide hammer? I've also seen some posts that mention the axle spline needing to be removed...

One of my studs came loose in the hub. It is just spinning so either the stud splines are stripped or the hole in the hub is reamed. In either case, I'd like to remove the hub so I can inspect it and replace the stud or hub. Local shop wants $1500 to replace the hub. Not sure what the dealership would charge, but I'm pretty sure I don't want to find out.

Can someone point me to a DIY or a procedure for removing the rear hub?

Man, I can't even find the wheel hub component part if the hole is reamed out and I need to replace it. All I can find online are front wheel hub assemblies. What the heck do folks do if they need to replace one of these things???

It's a pita job, but $1500 is a ripoff imo. The issue is that removing the rear hub destroys the hub bearing (splits in half; inner and outer sections separate. You can do most of the work yourself with hand tools, but the bearing parts have to be pressed off and then the new bearing back on. You could probably take that part to any auto machine shop and have them do it.

However, assuming the wheel stud hole is stripped there is probably a repair stud for that. That said, the factory manual says to pull the hub to replace a stud. The issue is they didn't leave a hole in the brake rotor backing plate to get a stud in/out. Most people cut a hole in the backer plate or cut a piece off to do that rather than pulling the hub and replacing the bearing.

After deliberating for a while I decided I didn't want the hassle of pulling the hub assembly and trying to get someone to press in a new bearing and whatnot, so I took it to the dealer. Walked out $300 lighter, but they fixed the wheel and now I can get back to replacing my old stock suspension with the new Tein coil overs. As a bonus they checked some other stuff and now I have a nice punch list of other things to fix. Lol

I think the Firestone shop must have quoted me for a whole new assembly. I can't figure out how they could come up with a $1,500 quote! Maybe they just didn't want to do the job...

The firestone around here quoted me $1200 to place my own rotors and pads on the car. Seems like they take the average fair rate and multiply by 5. I guess someone must be paying it.

Two places wanted $1050 and 999 to replace just the pads and rotors on my 2001 CRV. I did it my self with top shelf components for much less.

I was feeling pretty lazy that day. Considering a brake job used to be $50 I figured I could find someone pretty cheap. Local alignment shop quoted me $100 per axle but I ended up doing it myself anyway.
