how do I remove the oil overflow joint? (intake accordion)

I need to remove a joint in the accordian part of the intake. Its the one which the coolant is supposed to overflow into, but it snapped off. Completely. Now its causing a vaccum leak and I believe its responsible for my misfires. :/

Um, coolant does not go to accordian. If it did, be happy it snapped off. Depending on year, there are 2 or 3 lines going in. One is for Jet Air, the second is for the OMP check valve. The 3rd one, from the first couple of years, is from the oil filler.

That leak will mess with the air fuel mixture, the Jet air one messing with it the most.

Pull the tube and pull it out with needle nose pliers. Then take the pieces to autozone for something similar. Use a different car to go to autozone, unfiltered air going down the Jet Air line has a straight shot for dirt to get into engine.

Coolant overflow doesn't go into the intake. It's a severe problem if it did. I think you are referring to one of the vacuum lines. The elbow fittings there snap off easily. A pair of needle nose pliers should be all you need to remove the remains from the intake and hose end.

My bad, I meant to say oil. And I'll try that again. If it doesn't work, what else could I try?

Is it cold there? Are you working with stiff hoses?

Try warming them up. Even letting the engine run for a while and heat the engine bay will help. Rubber and plastic will get more flexible and it should make it easier.

More muscle if you are being gentle with it.
More finesse if you are just trying to muscle it out

Maybe a picture of what you are dealing with would help. I broke all 3 of those over the years, always went cold and brittle, and none of them gave me much trouble removing once i warmed everything up.

I would cut it and replace it. Just remember to support the underside so you don't break off the nipple.

edit: I originally wrote my reply to address the coolant overflow hose. The same applies here with the oil.

I got it out, fixed my vacuum leak, cleaned maf and cleaned throttle body. I ended up breaking the thing into smaller pieces so I could get the pieces out.

"More muscle if you are being gentle with it." <- This. lol, I always am afraid to hurt the car. It's my baby.

Anyway. I think I gained a good deal of HP. (so like 3hp, lol) and I can now take her up to redline without misfires. Hurrah!

putting a light coating synthetic grease on the nipple end that goes into the intake accordian tube makes it a lot easier to remove/install them without breaking in the future
