How do I determine if my engine mounts need to be replaced?

Hey guys, how do I determine if my engine mounts need replacement? I've got a few photos of them here. Please keep in mind I live where the road salt is used in the winter, so naturally they don't look their best.

Is there any symptoms I should be experiencing & etc?

Thanks.

They generally tear and separate on the top. The conical rubber area under the top mounting point. 4th pic in the first post

check how my engine is vibrating in this video, i had a broken engine mount.. (and badly secured spark plugs)

it's hard to tell, but the rubber was vibrating alot at idle.

Usually, the engine vibrates when in idle. You could really feel the vibration coming from under the hood. It's better to replace both sides rather than just the one side, so that it will be an even fix all the way.

mine vibrates on idle as well but when I checked both mounts and they looked fine, no visible tears in the top rubber portion at all?

what about transmission/rear diff mounts going bad?

Prybar to check if there's free openings.

If your shifter shakes a lot, it's probably time to replace 'em all.

From the TSB:

Some vehicles may experience the following symptoms.

- On manual transmission vehicles, when decelerating in 3rd gear with engine speed less than 3,000 RPM at approximately 30 MPH (50km/h), then quickly depressing the accelerator pedal again, a hesitation may occur. This symptom can only be observed in this engine speed and vehicle speed range.

- On automatic transmission vehicles, when at a stop in D range, excessive engine/body vibration may occur. This body vibration does not occur in P or N range.

Sorry to bring up an old thread but does your idle stay constant or is it somewhat irregular?
