Gyro, one correction and one clarification:
I don't know if you maybe misunderstood what the technician said, or if he was just wrong, but the MOP is the most important part of a rotary engine. If your MOP dies your engine dies, that is why it has so many trouble codes assosiated with it. Maybe the technician meant that with these trouble codes and the limp mode you can still drive even with a faulty MOP?

MAF, ECT and RPM are used to calculate charging effeciency, or the amount of air-fuel that is actually entering the engine. When you add the throttle position to the equation you have engine load (I'm simplifying here, obviously vehicle speed and other factors play a role). These two calculations are the basis for all fuel injection, ignition timing and MOP maps. The more load, the more oil...
