hello all,
i didnt get much response on this in the other thread, so i thought i would ask here in the Technical area.

yesterday when i was down in Owensboro the salesman took me out to the lot where he had a manual 2008 RX-8. when he started it up i was standing outside, and it seems to hesitate just very, very briefly, then sort of a "Whoosh" type sound. hope you understand what i am talking about.

anybody have any idea about this? it was down in the 30s the night before, and i assume the RX-8 was still cold when he started it.

there's an air pump that runs when the car is started up cold. It makes some noise.

any other responses? that April 30th deadline for the $3,000 rebate is dwindling down, the month is about half gone.

just trying to learn as much as i can before i make a decision........

i think its just the way the rx-8 starts. i was told that you turn the car and then just let go as it catches and then the familar wooshy noise of the engine roars up after a little hesitation.
sorta like a big wow noise if that is your woosh, but when you first start these cars they take a little getting used too.

as i turn the key like you normally start a car, the car will catch and start as i am still holding it on the starter and seems like a slight hesitation before it roars into life. its hard to explain here, it was strange to me at the start when i went on a test drive and the salesman said turn the car off then start her again, as the car turned over, it caught and the slight hesitation before the engine roared up (cat back sports exhaust too lol)

just test drive a few rx8's to get a comparison and see how they start before you decide upon the car you have seen.

don't worry should be ok, check the CAT is in good order, is one thing i would suggest.
