i noticed lately that my rx8 has been having a weird smell coming from the engine bay, definately smells like burning oil. it only occurs when the engine gets really warm from driving "it like it should be " or on a long trip where the engine warms up nice and good. ive checked in the engine bay and see smoke coming from the intake manifold area but a little under that. my car doesnt drip oil and never has and there is no oil on the splash gaurd or anything on the bottom of the car but there is oil around the oil fill cap and around the plastic manifold. what i thought it was, was maybe some oil spilt from topping it up with oil and is slowly burning off but its been occurring for the past 200 ish miles. i can give more info if needed. ive tried finding where its comming from but am puzzled. thanks in advance for any help

 

Wash the engine , blow dry it with compressed air, look for any oil weeping after you run it for a while.

 

ok thanks! i sprayed like half the area already but im scared im going to ruin something then noticed i missed alot of oil residue. there shouldnt be a problem if i keep the intake and alternator dry correct?

 

And spray all the connectors with WD40 or a water dispersant .
