Headlight leakage, etc...

I just picked up my new RX-8 last week and am very happy with the vehicle overall, but I had noticed that there appear to be stains apparently caused by condensation previously accumulated on the inside of the headlight housings on both sides, giving the lenses a dirty, hazy appearance. Also, I have several black spots on one of my wheels that are beneath the clearcoat so they will not clean off.

I am a bit on the **** side when it comes to the apprerance of my vehicles, and in the past with other makes of vehicles, such issues were resolved by the dealerships' service departments quite effortlessly (had the same headlight issue with an Eclipse in the past). My main concern is not so much if anyone has has had these specific issues (although it would be welcome information just to know that I am not the only one with such issues), but my main concern is to know how MAZDA treats such issues just to know if I am in for a battle with service and MAZDA this week when I show up for my appointment or if they will comply willingly with my requests for a new car that looks like one.

Any information based on personal experience would be greatly appreciated..

Dave

I'm pretty sure many people have had the foggy / dirty headlights replaced under warranty.

OK, this is going to sound funny... No, I'm not drunk (yet)...

I had something similar, but couldn't determine whether it was actually on the inside or outside. What did I do? I put a nice layer of caruba over top of my light covers, wiped it off, and guess what... The subtle haziness disappeared. I believe they're scratches or some sort of other microscopic abrasions on the outside.

I never saw any "real" condensation on the inside of my lights... Just what looked like a smokey film on the inside. A coat of wax and it was gone.

Hope it works for you too.

The staining is definitely on the inside, like in the post from "tlining", it is a soapy looking film (no spiders though, ha ha). I will be taking the car in to the dealership tomorrow (my alignment has to be checked, pulls to the left, guess they didn't check it before selling the car ).

I will post an update tomorrow night. Hopefully they just replace the lights and the wheel under warranty. Wish me luck and thanks for the info...

I just went to the service department of my Mazda dealership today, and after having shown them the lights, they agreed to order a new pair to replace them with. :-)

As for the spots on the wheels, which appeared to be underneath the clearcoat, they actually removed them using carb cleaner...
