Has anyone ever used a "brute power" release bearing from autozone?

My throwout bearing is making an awful racket so i wanna replace it before it chews up my input shaft. My local autozone has one in stock for 40$ but its a brute power brand. I've never heard of it before and am a little weary. It's got a lifetime warranty so it should be fine till i need to do the whole clutch. I think i just got a bad bearing this time cuz it only lasted 15k before making the racket. Has anyone ever heard of the brute power release bearing or used it before?

I don't see how the bearing would destroy the input shaft?

The throw out bearing mounts to the arm and contacts the fingers on the pressure plate. What typically happens is the fingers on the pressure plate get worn out (grooves) and the PP needs to be replaced.

You also have the pilot bearing where you need a special tool to remove which the input shaft rides in.

by reading your description I am confused on which one is the problem?

If its the throw out bearing then your input shaft is fine, you can tell if its the throw out bearing by hearing noise when its in neutral and the noise goes away when you push in the clutch.

If its a constant noise then it could be the pilot bearing. I actually never had one of these go bad on me, but I did replace mine when I changed the clutch on my rx7.

Hey thanks for the response. From my mechanic pall he said it was the release bearing or input shaft not being lubricated properly.

this is the noise it makes and only when the clutch is disengaged after about 10 minutes of driving and the trans is warm. It feels and sounds like the bearing is wobbling on the input shaft which is why i thought it might tear up the shaft. Its weird cuz we replace the pilot bearing and clutch assembly when the TOB blew up about 15-20k miles ago. And we applied copious lube to the shaft and bearing but i know the tob can be less than stellar. It's reminiscent of the chirp the bearing makes when its on its way out but magnitudes worse.

It’s the front clutch cover sleeve that bolts to the front casing inside the bellhousing area that the tb slides over and onto. It protects the input shaft from direct wear & damage.

Item# 16-220
Part # Y611-16-220
COVER,FRONT CLUTCH
$106.83 MSRP

are you saying that's what the noise is or are you saying there should be no damage because of the sleeve. Either way i want to replace it asap before it wears on the pressure plate also. Id rather not buy a new clutch when the old one isn't doing anything wrong. Also when looking at the picture like this

Doesn't the bearing slide over the input shaft past the sleeve when you disengage the clutch? My bearing feel like its wobbling and rubbing when fully extended so i worry about anything that its rotating around unevenly

I don’t know what your issue is without inspecting it. Just clarifying the part that fits between the throwout bearing and input shaft. It’s supposed to be replaced with the clutch, but most people reuse it because they don’t know, care, or maybe too cheap to do so.

huh now you got me curious. We didn't replace it when we did the clutch but my dealership never listed it in the quote they gave me to do it either. Now you got me worried that that thing is what's causing my noise and not the bearing. But it definitely feels like the bearing is whats bad. Feels like a dry bearing if that make sense. Real gritty and out of balance.

Well ultimately if it looks ok it’s alright to reuse it. I’ve reused plenty. They do wear though and that lets the tb skew over time.

You need to pull it apart and find out what the problem is before you buy anything though unless you just want to go through and replace everything regardless. At a minimum a new TB and Pilot bearing, maybe the clutch too depending on wear.

I’m assuming the dealership clutch swap must have been a while back if you’re not going there for warranty about this?

Well i did clutch job myself so it has no labor warranty. Parts warranty should still be good it was about 8 months 15k miles ago. And i know proper would be tear it apart and find the fault then buy and replace but the car is my daily and i need it to get to and from work. I for sure know i am replacing the throwout bearing, pilot bearing is maybe at this point because it doesn't show any symptoms of failing and it was just replaced the same time as clutch. The clutch operates fine aside from the weird vibration and noise, it doesnt slip or lock me out or anything like that. Only time it feels hinky is when the bearing sticks when im feathering and it wants to lurch and stall. Don't suppose there's a nifty inspection window on the transfer case to look at the parts lol. It's a pita to get apart in my driveway.
