Hand lapping, what compound do I use?

Ok so a little question, you may have seen my dead engine Click Here

Well I want to try and get the housings into a half usable condition for a dev engine. I don't mind spending a few hours hand lapping them but don't want to go blowing £300 to get a company to do them.

I remember watching a video where someone takes two side housings, puts some lapping paste between them and then rubs them against each other. This is what I want to do but was wondering what lapping paste I should use?

Thanks
James

Wrong forum, this is for DIY threads not questions. Also, I find it better to search the rx7 club for answers like this one. Not enough people skimping on rx8 rebuilds yet to know what works and what doesn't. However a quick google search reveals:

The consensus is it's possible but not recommended.

Clover compound or valve grinding compound.

Keep in mind that is just for the IRONS not the housings. Once you do this it will remove the nitride coating and you can only expect about 30-40k out of them.

Good luck.

thanks for the reply's yes I did mean the side housings, not the rotor housing lol. ok super, what sort of grit should I use? Its only a development engine so I don't mind if it only lasts a few thousand miles, also could a mod move this to the correct section please.

Might want to see what the RX7 guys are using, but 400 grit should be good.
