Got my 8 back with reman engine

I got the 8 in May or April of 08. It had about 39000 miles on it and it was an 04. About a month or two after I got had it, it had stoped running due to it needing a new cat, plugs, and coils. Then for the past month and half I had been having problems with the air valve in the intake making loud noise and also the engine had seemed to be making a odd noise on the left side of the engine if you are facing it. I had the valve fixed and then I had them take a look at the other noise that the engine was making. The tech said he thinks it was from one of the apex seals. He said he called mazda and they would be sending out a cleaner and to have him try it. Three days later they told me that it didnt work and that I would be getting a Reman engine. So I finaly got the car two day after a week and a half. I had also had them put a new clutch system in. Also the noise that I had heard in the old engine, is also in the reman. So maybe it is normal. I dont know. They also told me that I need to break it in and I should wait after 500 miles until I "Drive like I Stole" per say. I will see if I can find a Pic of where the noise is coming from. It sound like it is either coming from where the plastic intake system connects to the metal part of the engine or right under that area. It makes a sound like it has one single engine valve that is moving up and down like a piston engine. But when I rev it it sounds like it vibrates a little bit.

I can hear the noise coming from this area in red.


I dont know if it is in the intake or in the engine itself.

Egr valve!!!

The clicking that you hear is the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) Valve.
My 8 is at the dealer right now to have the engine replaced do to loss of
Vacuum, whe the engine starts to die it loses vacuum and the EGR valce is
operated by a vacuum line. No vacuum the valve does not operate properly
and you hear the valve clicking. Have the dealer run a compression test and a
vacuum test to see if you cant get a new engine under the 8 Year/100,000 mile
extended warranty. Im pretty sure that is your problem, best of luck to you.

BTW the EGR valve is the gold looking hat just to the right of that big rubber hose under the intake ports you can take a flat head and close or open the valve manualy and the clicking will stop.
