THIS girl has bad motor mounts!?!?

Ok so my car is at the dealer where it's having a new motor put in (SWEET!) The dealer contacts me today and informs me that the motor mounts need to be replaced! Mind you my car is an 05 and has 27,xxx miles on it. Do motor mounts generally go bad after this many miles? The manager told me that they wore out due to my car sitting parked for so many months (8 months to be exact) Any truth to this motor mount wearing out theory? Thanks guys!

Hmmmmm...............well, I know motor mounts do go bad in this car.
Not sure if just sitting would do it.
He wants you to pay for the mounts right? How much?

I mean, I've heard motor mounts causing vibrations, bad idle, etc.
Not sure I have ever run across someone getting a new engine where they were told they need new mounts.
There are sevral TSB's on motor mounts and you could have a bad one, it would be damn hard for us to tell through the internet.
Think I'd be tempted to just have the motor replaced and then if I suffered any of the sysmptoms I'd have the mounts looked at.....or.......have the motor replaced and go somewhere else to have the mounts checked.

Let's see what others say.

Here's a link to the TSB to see if you had any of these symptoms.

Thanks for the link, Mazurfer. I will have the mounts replaced if they need to be.

Seriously tho i have never heard of motor mounts going bad due to the vehicle sitting for a long period of time.

Side note....can't wait to finally have my car fixed. Should have it back by Tuesday!

sit for long time? maybe, but not 8 months.

heat/cheap material is what kills these mounts.

but the new/updated mounts work pretty good (so far).

Motor mounts went bad on early RX8s because engine heat affected the rubber compund in the mount. Mazda went to a revamped rubber in the new mount. The TSB tells you which VINs were affected. I wouldn't buy the "sitting around" story from the dealer. If it were true, Mazda would have issued a TSB on it by now.

Most dealers lie just to get your money. They think you don't know **** about cars. Specially the senior citizens...

In case you haven't noticed, the phrase "I don't know" is not in most male's vocabulary. The explanation is bogus, I stored two cars 5 years with no ill effects, but that doesn't mean that your mounts aren't bad. I'm not familiar with the failure mode of these mounts, but if the rubber has visible cracks, the most likely are. However, even if they aren't, if your 8 doesn't have the updated mounts, they will fail eventually - so why not replace them now and save the labor cost you'd have when you have to do it later?

Yeah but, no but..

The Engine Mounts have been "Updated Again", even S2's may/will have issues in time, as will all RX-8's up to April 1st, 2010 (Manual) Production....
even those who have had them replaced.

And Dave, many of Finishlines TSB's are out of date..

Here is/are the updated one on Engine Mounts..

The A mount is the latest..

BTW: Funny how it is the Right Side with the main issue..where all the exhaust heat is.

Yep, I am aware(thanks to you), I was merely linking something she could read and glean a little info from. And..........I knew you'd show up in here.

I am confused. THe new motor mount TSb is for 2004 and up 8s right ? SO says the tsb issued in early 2010. But it says it is covered under the new car powertrain warranty. Isn't that only 5 years long ? Why would they make a TSB and name vehicle years that can't be covered under the TSB. What am I missing ? Thanks. I have an 05 with a new engine and motor mount vibrations. I think I still miss out on TSB.

What are you missing...umm knowledge on How TSB's work..

TSB's are Not only for Warranty work or information, they inform the Dealership on change. Dealers don't just repair cars under warranty you know.

TSB's is a US terminology or name, Europe and Australia use bulletins Direct from Mazda Japan, as does MNAO, but, MNAO reconstructs top of the Bulletin and they put their name and details...they OMIT the departments in a dealership that "Service Information" (or TSB) is directed to, like Parts Department, Training Department, Warranty Department, General Manager, Field Manager, Dealer Principal etc.

So basically Mazda Japan are also saying the revised bulletins and or revised parts will also fit 2004 RX-8's.
