Fuel Filter?

Do we have a fuel filter? If so, where is it and after how many miles should it be replaced?

It's in the fuel pump under one of the rear seats. supposed to be changed every 100,000 miles along with the pump.

Seriously, I can't tell if Expo is being sarcastic or not. I've seen fuel filters get really nasty after 10k pretty regularly, and using premix I can only assume the worst, then again I know not everyone premixes.

Of course, I've never heard of changing the fuel pump until it goes out either so, I'm interested to find out if he's joking or not.

Expo's never sarcastic. He gives the straight scoop - you can count on it.

A lot of cars don't specify any interval for replacing the fuel filter. It's not like the old days when you could expect the inside of the tank to corrode and drop crap into the fuel system.

What Expo said is true, at least according to manual.

but I just replaced my fuel pump myself couple weeks ago like 42K miles. cuz the pump is no good, the fuel filter inside look like crap.

Premix shouldnt clog filter like that. Its the other crap in the gas that causes it.

I said "Are you serious" because I cant believe that Rotary Rasp asked the question.

I had my working fuel pump changed at 100,000 (32,000 pre-mix) for schedule maintenance reasons. So putting 100K miles on it can be done. I sent my old one to Old Dragger to look it over but I guess he never got around to it. A while back fuel pump issues was a big deal to him.

Seriously though, I never hear of anyone changing their fuel filter in the 8.

I think it's all one piece. Would it be possible to take it apart and clean it?

you probably COULD do that, but probably not advisable. Just put in a new pump.

I just got a new motor and thought it would be a good idea to clean the fuel filter.

Don't think it would be that easy.

Well, it is possible to take it apart, u just need some time, u'll need a flat head screw driver

but, hmm, when I replace my pump i ran out of patience. So I just took my hammer out and smash that filter into pieces minus filter.

Crappy premix that is not designed for fuel injection will clog up the filter in no time flat.

People use a lot of crappy paraffin based pre-mixes that are designed for carbed motorcycles and old snowmobiles and expect that it can fit through the 150mc screen of the filter. It won't and it will clog into a waxy mush when used with some other additives (like many of the so-called fuel cleaners and treatments).
