Front Splash guard installation problem
Front Splash guard installation problem
I have been trying to install the splash guards on the 8 and think Mazda or the dealership is giving me the run around. I have the 16" wheels and the dealership ordered the front guards for me. The instructions show that there are 4 clips and 4 screws for the clips to install. The dealer thinks I am nuts and says the clips are on the car. I asked if they were could they show me where. The service guy then tries to tell me that they will be glad to install them for me. If I wanted that I would do it. I already did the back and the front would be easy if I had all the parts. Am I nuts or are they just trying to make a buck. Anyone else install these on a 16" wheel?
Any help would be appreciated.

I don't have my instructions handy now, but the instructions mention different installs depending if you have 16 or 18 don't they? I have 18. But IIRC you use turn the plastic center screw thing and it pops out, then you remove the entire screw thing, pull back the plastic and there are clips on the inside attached to the wheel well. I could be wrong but that's from memory 8 months ago.
I just installed a set of splash guards on my 8 this past Sunday. The instructions do have differences for the 16" wheels and 18" wheels. They are a snap to install. (at least for the 18" wheels). :D
I just helped IZoomZoomI install his front splash guards this past Saturday. It was a breeze for the most part. I guess I'm not really understanding what part about it was hard. Maybe the 18in are easier to install, but it doesn't seem like it should be that much different. Hope you get it worked out soon.
If you look on the instructions it says its supposed to have 4 round clips and 4 tapping screws for the 16" tire version. If I had those it would be a piece of cake to install.
I saw where the flat clip attached to the wheel well. I just need to know how to attach the bottom of the guard to the bottom of the car. The instructions say to remove the hole cover and insert a round clip into the hole. The dealer says that those clips are on the car somewhere but neglected to tell me where. I am hoping tomorrow that they will tell me or get me the clips I need or else I want my money back and I will try another dealership.

you would have to use the tapping screws to screw it on. When you took out the rock guard you had to unscrew some screws right? Use those same screws to screw in the splash guards onto the car.
you can use the screws that are currenlty holding on that little peice of plastic. it comes of. and when i installed mine i had all those old screws left over. sounds like you did not get the harware for you kit.
just go tell the parts guy to give you the clips and screws .. they have that stuff .

IZoomZoomI I did not have to remove a rock guard from the bottom of the car. I think that's only if you have 18" wheels. The instructions for the 16" say your supposed to get the clips inserted in the bottom of the car where the hole cover is removed. The bottom attachment is what's holding me up.
The parts guys think I am crazy but I showed them on the instructions what the deal is and that I am missing parts in 2 sets of splash guards. From all the advice everyone has given it sounds like everybody's got 18" wheels .

what u are missing is just a simple clip that gives a screw something to bite into.
those clips came with my set up.. I did not use them cause i have 18's. but you are right. you have to take out the rubber peice and then use the clip to back a sheet metal screw that screws into the clip that you place over the hole.
Those clips can be gotten at pep boys, Auto zone ..... even a stereo shop will have them...
But .. I would be happy to send you mine if you live on an island with no autoparts stores
If you need them ill mail um..
let me know.

BUMP FROM THE DEAD!!!
Anybody know the part number to the clips this guy was looking for? My wife just bought me some for christmas, and I didn't get the clips either. Got them from Rosenthal Mazda, and they are saying a 16" version doesn't exist even though the literature provided has a part number for it, and 16 inch wheels were sold in the US. Usually they are about the most helpful guys I've found online, but they are giving me the cold shoulder on this one.
Anywho, I've searched for part numbers, even have the complete parts list for the car but I guess they are not listed since it's an add-on part.
Any help would be appreciated. Maybe I'll link this post to the guys at Rosenthal to help them realize I'm not insane and there are in fact two different part numbers with different hardware and that these guards are useless without the above mentioned clips to fasten them to the car!

They are not the same as Mazda has different part numbers for given wheel sizes. 17 and 18, then 16 inch. Cars originally equipped with 16 inchers do not have the stone guard running along the bottom of the car near the rocker panel. They already have the clips as they are what hold the stone guard in place.
By not having the stone guards, you need the clips I'm referring to in order for the self tappers to have something to screw into. You pop out the "hole covers" and replace them with these elusive clips.
Rosenthal has proven to be quite unhelpful despite the fact the packing list clearly states the kit should have (4) of said clips. Told me if I had a part number they could help. Duh, if I had a part number I wouldn't need their help. With this lack of support I should've just bought off eBay and saved a few bucks.
Hard to find good help these days.
If anybody can point me in the direction of a part number that'd be awesome. These things are useless without them.

Base part number for Series 1 front mud flaps are:
F151-V3-450F 18 inch wheels
F152-V3-450F 16 inch wheels
Depending on the color code, you'll still need to input two more digits at the end of the part numbers.
The only difference I see in the install instructions/parts list for the 16 inch version versus the 18 inch version are four self tapping screws and the four stone guard clips you already mentioned. The four screws are installed already on a 18 inch tire version so you would just reuse those for the install.
I looked up the part numbers you need in the 16 inch version.
GJ6R-50-713 (50-053A in the pic) self tapping screws x 4
C100-51-SJ3A (51-SJ3 in the pic) clip x4
And the parts picture for you as reference:

F152-V3-450F 16 inch wheels
