Free engine replacement
Free engine replacement
I have seen this mentioned quite a few times but do Mazda actually do this for a car that is out of its warranty? If they do, what criteria do they apply?
I am new to the forum so I apologise if this topic has already been done to death.
Thanks
Neil

If you are still within Powertrain warranty, the engine replacement is free assuming it fails a compression test or a vacuum test, or there is some other obvious sign of failure that is warranty covered
If you are outside of Powertrain warranty but within the 8yr 100k engine core warranty, the engine replacement will cost you $500-$600, as you will have to pay for the fluids, gaskets, bolts,, belts, etc.. that have to be replaced along with the engine, but are not part of the engine core itself, and thus not covered by the extended 8yr 100k warranty
If you are outside of the 8yr 100k warranty, the engine replacement will cost you $5,000 to $7,000, depending on the dealer. A cheaper option is a rebuild from one of the forum vendors here, or even buying a used or rebuilt engine. Usually one of these options can be accomplished for $2,500 to $3,500 total.

Either lucky or a good dealership. Most can't expect that though. Although the compression test that came back with failing numbers should always be free. Only pay for it if you pass.
I guess they decided to bill differently.

Other good ones might just forget to replace something that they should and you end up with the front of your RX-8 in flames.
Not everything should be re-used, even if it technically can be.

I'm on my 4th engine. I seem to remember one person that had 5. In the last 2 yrs, it has gotten a bit harder to get a replacement. Mazda has started requiring proof of proper oil changes.
And it isn't a free engine. It is a warranty replacement.

k just curious about that because my first engine failed at 61k and the replacement engine failed before they even got the car back to me and they tried to make me pay for labor charges replacing it twice... (they didnt get a penny btw)
