fog lights...

i didn't get the fog lights when i got the car and now i'm regretting it. They look good by themselves.
Does anybody know if it's possible to do aftermarket ones or any way to get them if you didn't get it OEM? or if self installation is easy/possible?
and if so, how much are we looking at?

Go on ebay. They have some cheap ones. I think they were around $150 or so. Believe me, compare to the market price, that's cheap. I read on some threads that it should be fairly easy to install. However, the one thing I would be careful about is when you have to take out your original light switch. Try searching though. It helps.

buy the oem ones they come with everything necessary and they'll take you 30 minutes to install if you've removed the bumper before install follows in a few steps

1.remove bumper using stubby phillips
2.remove spacers from bumper where fog lights go (3 screws each side)
3.install fog lights using either the screws you removed or the ones included
4.pull wires down on left and right (they are taped up)
5.put bumper back on (but don't replace the screws in the under tray..yet all other bumper screws are ok..we wouldn't want the bumper to fall on you)
6.plug fog lights in

1.go inside the car under steering column
2.remove 3 phillips screws
3.pry apart gently so you don't damage
4.remove 2 phillips screws from control arm with headlight switches
5.pull control arm out
6.insert new control arm
7.replaces 2 phillips screws
8.snap steering column back together
9.replace 3 phillips screws
10. turn on lights (both headlight and fog light switches)

1.go under car with phillips
2.adjust fog lights to proper height or height you prefer
3.replace under tray screws
4.enjoy your foglights

Hope this helps you some

I am in the same boat as you are... But then again I bought my 8 used and it was not an option . Mazda has them listed for $325.00, but I have seen them for as low $252.00 at Mazdaparts.org .

I've seen the OEM fog light kit as competetively priced as $49 on eBay.

IMHO, they're pretty worthless. As wired by the factory (and required by US regulations) they only go on when the low beams are on. The Xenon low beams, with their sharp cutoff, are excellent fog lights. It's hard to even see much effect of the fogs.

But I'm keeping my fogs. One of these days I'll do the mod so I can use them as DRLs on "Wipers on, lights on" days and/or in "Headlights on" zones.

Ordered the Blue fog lights, they should be here on the 28th. I went ahead and ordered Racing Beat's A/C Condenser & Oil Cooler Protective Screens. I figured if I was going to have to remove the bumper... I might as well knock out a couple of projects at the same time. For those of you who are curious about removing the bumper, I have found the following resources: From the RX-8 Club and from Racing Beat. Also, in a above post by Palm Harbor's own He||hammer, he says to "adjust fog lights to proper height or height you prefer". On PIAA lights web site they have a guide on adjusting them.

I wired the fog lights to work with my parking lights, i didnt want them to turn on with the ignition, so i ran the wire from the fogs to the tail relay in the fuse block under the hood, took me 10 mins and makes a world of diff... i also got "cool blue" lights.

I took mine off. They are only decorative and aren't bright enough for fog use.

In regards to removing the bumper, has anyone had any issues with causing the paint to spider?
