Ok, well I've had the rx8 for about 2 months now and its almost at 63k miles. I need to change the oil. So my question is what do I use? I've been adding castrol 5w20 to the car because it burns oil, so I actually wanted to switch to a different type of oil my choices are:

Idemitsu Racing Rotary Engine Oil 10w30 (Synthetic)
Royal Purple Street Synthetic Motor Oil - SAE 5w30

Or should I just stick with the castrol crap I'm using now?

I've read through all of the oil / synthetic / premix threads and to say the least its confused the hell out of me so thats why I'm posting a new thread to ask the question..

One more, I wanted to start premixing, and from my knowledge its never been done to the car in its life time. I wanted to use Idemitsu Racing Rotary Fuel Lube. Just wondering if thats what I should start using from now on? (Also how much should I add to a full tank of gas when just street driving and how much should I add when I choose to do AutoX.

Stick with at least 5w30 and you'll be fine.

Castrol Aint crap if you know that most of their oils are nothing but Group III oils, even the ones that saids Fully Synthetic are "Mostly" Group III oil. Meaning you "didn't get what you paid for"

The only "True" Synthetic oil in the WHOLE Castrol lline is the one with 0w30, European formula.

Anywayz, you're in LA right? and you will never see freezing temp, so just use 10w30 and you'll be fine.

for premix, just add 8oz to the tank when its almost empty, then after that, say if u have 1/2 tank left, add 4 oz to it and fill it up. it should be good.

 

I've been letting the dealership change my oil (with whatever they put in) because they gave me free oil change coupons. I would top it off with Castrol 10W40. The car is 4 yrs old now and they don't send those coupons anymore. I will be changing it my self with Castrol.

All rotaries burn oil. It's a given. Do you mean that yours burns so much that you exhaust is a little black. If so, it's too late (and too expensive) to start using synthetic.

Cool, thats what I needed to know. Just looking through all those other threads confused me because it had soo much more information on it. And switching from regular to synthetic confused me even more.

I did it on my accord and it caused $500 worth of seals, and an engine rebuild. This engine doesn't have near the amount of seals, but it does have those basic main ones. Just checking to be sure.. didn't want to do anything stupid ya know.
